GCobb.com Mock Draft 2

Carolina Panthers head coach Ron Rivera, who is the team’s new head coach and will be the Panther’s de-facto defensive coordinator, understands the value of having a dominating defensive tackle in the middle of the defense. He knows he can put him on the outside shoulder of one of the offensive guards and force the opposing offense to double-team him.

Denver sees Da’Quan Bowers as a dominating force on their defense. The Bills want to build their offense around young talented quarterback Blaine Gabbert. A.J. Green is a beast whom the Bengals can’t overlook. He’ll make Carson Palmer want to stay in Cincy.

Arizona needs an impact playmaking pass rusher like Von Miller. Cleveland may be getting the best defensive lineman in the draft with Marcell Dareus. Robert Quinn will make an impact for the Niners as a pass rusher.

The Titans may be get the chance to grab Cam Newton if he’s not off the board sooner. Dallas can’t help but grab Patrick Peterson, who is a steal at this spot. Cameron Jordan will fit in very well in one of the Redskins defensive end spots.

I’ve got the Eagles grabbing Mike Pouncey because he has the type of athleticism and intelligence which will allow the Birds to play him at guard or center depending on how well Jamaal Jackson returns. They’re deciding that they can live with Winston Justice.

Here’s the way I see things working out at this point.

1. Carolina Panthers – Nick Fairley, DT, Auburn

2. Denver Broncos – Da’Quan Bowers, DE, Clemson

3. Buffalo Bills – Blaine Gabbert, QB, Missouri

4. Cincinnati Bengals – A.J. Green, WR, Georgia

5. Arizona Cardinals – Von Miller, OLB, Texas A&M

6. Cleveland Browns – Marcell Dareus, DE, Alabama

7. San Francisco 49ers – Robert Quinn, DE, North Carolina

8. Tennessee Titans – Cam Newton, QB, Auburn

9. Dallas Cowboys – Patrick Peterson, CB, LSU

10. Washington Redskins – Cameron Jordan, DE, California

11. Houston Texans – Prince Amukamara, CB, Nebraska

12. Minnesota Vikings – Corey Liuget, DT, Illinois

13. Detroit Lions – Jimmy Smith, CB, Colorado

14. St. Louis Rams – Julio Jones, WR, Alabama

15. Miami Dolphins – Colin Kaepernick, QB, Nevada

16. Jacksonville Jaguars – Aldon Smith, DE, Missouri

17, New England Patriots – Cameron Heyward, DE, Ohio State

18. San Diego Chargers – Tyron Smith, OT, USC

19. New York Giants – Nate Solder, OT, Colorado

20. Tampa Bay Buccaneers – Ryan Kerrigan, DE, Purdue

21. Kansas City Chiefs – Akeem Ayers, OLB, UCLA

22. Indianapolis Colts – Anthony Castonzo, OT, Boston College

23. Philadelphia Eagles – Mike Pouncey, G/C, Florida

24. New Orleans Saints – Mark Ingram, RB, Alabama

25. Seattle Seahawks – Gabe Carimi, OT, Wisconsin

26. Baltimore Ravens – Aaron Williams, CB, Texas

27. Atlanta Falcons – Torrey Smith, WR, Maryland

28. New England Patriots – Adrian Clayborn, DE, Iowa

29. Chicago Bears – Derek Sherrod, OT, Mississippi State

30. New York Jets – J.J. Watt, DE, Wisconsin

31. Pittsburgh Steelers – Rashad Carmichael, CB, Virginia Tech

32. Green Bay Packers – Ben Ijalana, OT, Villanova

Looks pretty good G..
I think Gabbert at #3 is high, Bills really need some Defensive Line help
I can’t see how CB Patrick Peterson drops to #9 to the Cowboys.. He’s probably the best all-around athlete on the board and can be Stud CB and even a Safety with his size and is an excellent return man.. I don’t see him going past the 49ers at #7 and really sooner

G, Everything sounded good until you said the Eagles can live with Winston Justice, I pray your wrong, Or i pray Mudd can make him a star, lets hope for the first cause if the latter is true that means Castillo couldnt do it which wont bode well for our D.

I agree with G, I don’t think the Eagles are going to give up on W Justice after
a bad couple of games at the end of last season.. Justice actually played well
in 2010 until he was injured..he probably came back a little too soon and was
not the same player after tweaking his knee..
I do think they will concentrate on the RG position and POuncey would be a perfect fit

For the record
Alabama’s Marcell Dareus is a DT and not a DE..
He’s 6’3″– 310lbs and is a force in the middle of the Defense but not a DE..

Paulman, Justice did play good this past season but when it came to our biggest game of the year he was totally outplayed, I can see if it was only a play or 2 but it wasnt, It was so bad they had to yank him, With Vick starting, that right side becomes the most important position on the O-Line, You cant just be ok, Why did they pick up Peters? they picked him up because at that time he was one of the best at his position and had the biggest responsability, Protecting Mcnabbs blind side, now that its reversed you have to do the same thing on the other side,Get an all pro caliber tackle to do the same thing for Vick, Being okay wont do.

Justice’s knee was still hurting and still swollen up the last 3 weeks/games of the Season and wasn’t able to play very well at all down the Stretch..
Again, I go back to the Coaching, if a player is hurting and obvioulsy is unable to contribute and play at a high level, then replace him with someone that can which they didm, but it was a little too late in the game at that point..

Paulman, Justice was ok when he didnt have to protect the QBs blind side but now that he does you have to upgrade that side! Again, they went and got Peters beacuse they needed the best to protect our QBs blind side, The Eagles knew that, Justice is nowhere close to being a top tackle, Your asking an above average tackle to handle the most important position on the O-Line, It will never work with him there.

Wonder if LT Jason Peters can play the Right Side and be the RT moving forward..Does anyone think they could do this…I don’t see any reason that he can’t..

Paulman, Thats a good question, I wonder if its that easy, Do you know of anybody that made that move and was successful?

Flozell Adams was a LT for the Cowboys and played RT for the Steelers..
Now he didn’t play that well and is in the twilight of his career..
Tony Boselli played LT when he first came up for the Jaguars, then I believe he was moved to the RT when the Left-handed QB Scott Brunnell became the starter there..

I liked your last mock better, G…… This one is good though. Did them both kinda quick. I won’t be doing another mock til after the combine. Then probably one right before the draft.

To Paulman,
I honestly don’t think Peterson fits as a blind side tackle. Most LTs (or RT in our case) are great pass blockers, quicker, more agile etc…… Peters is more of a big run blocking mauler, similar to what Runyan was. I think we need a new RT. Justice can be a serviceable backup but this is the 2nd time he showed that he can get overwhelmed in the NFL…… I just don’t think he is a full time starter for the long haul. He is backup material.

To SportsBum,
J Peters has been the Blind-Side Tackle (LT) for his carreer and has gone to
2-3 Pro-Bowls when playing for a Right-Hand QB’s..
Maybe it would be easier to have M Vick learn how to play and pass Right-Handed..

Back to G’s Mock,
Steelers Pick at #31 for CB Carmichaeal is a real stretch (probably a 2nd/3rd CB)
Packers Pick at #32 for OL Ilijalana also a stretch

Where are highley rated DT’s M Wilkerson from Temple and
Phil Taylor from Baylor .. Wilkerson from Temple will be a Top #20-#25 Pick

I understand that he played LT for his career, but he is overrated. He led the league in sacks given up the 2 years before he came to the Eagles. Pro Bowls is no measure of success for anyone and especially OL, because OL mainly makes it based on name alone, not play.

Possible spots to move Kolb for: 1, 3, 4, 5, 7, 8, 12, 15,

Man, It would just totally change our draft!

To Zukny,

You can add 32 spots to each number for Kolb since he’s most likley to
return a 2nd Round pick and not a 1st Round pick.. Just sayin..

Love that trade for obvious reasons Paulman. It solves two major issues. I think Fairley is going to be a staple for someones defense for the next 10 years. Is that from any real source or just yourself?

From myself BirdsFan
I think I am the only “source’ left, that will talk to me anymore..
but this would be a win-win for everyone..
