ESPN Report: Eagles Trying To Move Up In First Round

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that the Philadelphia Eagles are one of six teams trying to trade up in the draft. I think they’re trying to trade up to get one of the top two cornerbacks.

The Eagles have two dire needs. One is on the offensive line and the other is at the cornerback position. General Manager Howie Roseman said last week that this year’s offensive line is deep, but it’s clear that the cornerback positiion isn’t deep. There’s a tremendous fall off from the two top cornerbacks, Patrick Peterson and Prince Amukamara.

Therefore I believe the Eagles are planning on moving up to get a cornerback.

The other five teams who are also trying to move up are the Minnesota Vikings, New England Patriots, Buffalo Bills, Cincinnati Bengals, and Tennessee Titans.

Ive learned that what we think the eagles will do and should do they will do the opposite. They will NOT draft a CB in the first round. If they do trade up I see them drafting a guy like Von Miller which I would be over joyed to have. If they can trade up a few spots I would love to see Pouncey taken by the birds

How much do you guys want to bet that the New England Patriots get the guy we want?

Remember that hard hitting Safety we wanted one year?

Guess who jumped in front of us?

Guess?

O K …I’ll give you a hint

They are the “PLATINUM STANDARD”

Yeah that dude is a street thug and layed a ridiculously dirty hit on Todd Heap last year. Wouldnt even want that dude on my team.

I think Roseman is gonna make his mark this year. Whether we move up or stand pat and get a big boy for o-line and corner in second. I have a nice feeling about this draft based on what i’ve heard and last years picks.

They move up and get Peterson our D is nasty.Youth and speed gallor.

April 26, 2011 9:55 am

Schill is correct,
It’s Brandon Merriweather who the Eagles were interested in but the Pats moved up to grab him, The Patirots other Saferty is Patrick Chung who was a 2nd Round Pick I believe and also a hard hitter..

schiller

April 26, 2011 10:07 am

My understanding was that Meriwether was not a hard hitter prospect, he was seen as a make a play on the ball kind of guy. And I’m not convinced the Eagles wanted him, we never know the truth behind reports like that…

The problem we have is that New England also need a top corner and our organization is no match for them on draft day or game day….That’s the reality.

We’ll probably trade down and get another fast ball like Jerome McDougal or Brandon Graham.

Love those fastballs

Merriweather looked real good getting sonned by Santonio Holmes and Braylon Edwards in theat Jet game huh?

He’s an o.k. player…Hoodie man can coach anyone up. He’s a knucklehead and will serve a suspension this year.

Brandon Graham will be fine. He showed more in one series then Mcdougle showed in those years. Im not ready to call him a bust.

NE also needs an o-lineman and edge rusher. So whats your point?

I wonder what value we can find in a player coming off of a couple ACL or MCL tears?

We can never have enough of those, and by the way I think we’ll sit pat with our corners….

Our blindspots usually last 2 Seasons before addressing which gives us enough time to let another important player go and develop a blindspot in a different area of the team.

Look for the organization to start talking up Lindley and how players usually make a leap in their 2nd or 3rd year…. He’ll be toast and off the roster next year.

Erock ..my point is that if New England needs a player of need in the same position as the Eagles, we can expect them to out maneuver us and get him every time as if they have spys in our war room.

Damn….They may have spys in our war room.

Another thing that might happen….

Castilllo personally worked with the DB’s so you know they’ll probably pick some guy none of us have heard of from a small school in the mid rounds and tell us Castillo graded him in comparison to the top 3 corners.

VALUE

Would that surprise anyone here?

Guys..just bringing levity today.

We get our hopes up every year for the draft only to sit back in our EZ chairs and ask……

Who in the hell is that?

Kevin Freakin Kolb?

When we need weapons?

Remember folks?

And I’m just scratching the surface here.

Don’t get your hopes up for the draft…The teams we envy will get the players we need.

Are teams even allowed to trade draft picks? We have no leverage with Kolb right now given the lockout. The Eagles would never draft Von Miller although I would LOVE him on this team. Don’t be surprised if the Eagles trade out of the 1st round again.

morning btc24… im guessing you went to bed right after woppner or jepordy last night. Lockout has been lifted (although PFT says it might still be on until tomorrow)…. the eagles and every other team can trade anyone they want. Dont expect FA signings though…. the water is still muddy on new contracts PLUS… it would be odd to see a player at the podium upon signing when the owner is off stage flipping him the bird.

Yes, I saw last night that the lockout was lifted but they were talking about it on Sports Radio and acted like it was a huge step but still a ways to go. They didn’t seem to indicate that any trades could take place. All they talked about was how players could come to the facilities.

I know everyone is tired of me saying this, but no trades involving players or free-agency just yet.. Nothing will happen until the appeal process works it way thru the court system ) which is probably 1-2 weeks from now.
So until then, no player movment , You can trade draft picks for draft picks for now..

April 26, 2011 11:33 am

paul, that is NOT what the media is saying (although you know more then them, or thats at least what you always insinuate). They are saying that (and I know you can’t grasp this concept) – it is UNKNOWN when player trades and FA will happen, it may happen within the next few days if the judge rules that the ‘season’ starts immediately, or potentially it will have to wait until the appeals process is finnished.

All team GM’s and Coaches are going to follow the Owners orders and wishes and right now those wishes include no player movement and no free-agency..
All the Owners will have thier organizations follow their lead and that means no player movement no matter what the Courts/Media say…
Teams Front Office personnel may have to take a short-term hit on improving their teams, but they will follow their bosses (Owners orders)

Paulman might be wrong here, but may be right too. We will have to see what happens today or tomorrow regarding the appeal, but there is a chance there could be player movement.

Getting to this article, if the Eagles do move up, I hope its not for Amukamura. I think he is the 3rd best corner in the draft, and they could probably get a better corner, Jimmy Smith, later in the draft. I think Von Miller is a great player, but I don’t think for the Eagles. We would probably have him dropping into coverage and covering TE’s, etc. I think Peterson would be great, but might have to give up too much. Id say a great pick would be Pouncey, but I think we can all agree, it’ll be someone noone will think of.

Anyone read and check on what’s happened today all over the various NFL Teams Headquarters.. The teams allowed players to come in, but there are no workouts,no video watching, or practices, no coaches around, no strength or conditioning people around.. The NFL Owners have their teams and employees falling in line and until they are forced to by the Courts, they will not move…Now once the appeal process runs it course, then they will have to but that could take week,10 days , 2 weeks, who knows.. The Teams and their Front Office personnel are in a hunker down mode and concentrating on the the Draft, all over activities pertaining to player actrivities are on the back burner as far as they are concerned and as they are bring instructed by Ownership..

of course its just a prediction, those are always hit or miss.
if it happens i think we all will be happy.
who knows who will sign asomugha?
this off-season is slow transaction wise and chaotic with this “lockout”

the nfl will go back to normal, this is an overblown tiff between rich people
the nfl generates too much revenue to go through any sort of a work stoppage
speaking in terms of the actual season, its way bigger than the nba
the nba locked out for half of the 2001 season, the same will not happen here

vricchini – I am with you. I stayed away from everything eagles for the past couple of months because their foolishness was a waste of time.

From trading out of the 1st round to giving a rival your 1st round pick and another rival your probowl QB. Nothing would surprise me on draft day.

Crystal Ball Andy is just too smart for me. I’m just waiting for them to draft:

1. Undersized guy
2. Torn ACL guy
3. Out of position guy

I will embrace it this year, and lower my superbowl expectations to winning just enough to keep your job, and have everybody tell philadelphia fans how lucky we are to have a coach that has won as many superbowls as marv levy and bud grant combined.

Some get it and some dont. Eagles are what Andy Reid wants them to be. I do think they will make a move to either go up or down but who we all think they will take they wont. We were all sure that Earl Thomas was ours and what did we get? Graham. Remember when we drafted Jeromy Maclin? who would have guessed? im not at all dissing the selections they have made im simply stating that while the media and fans think they truly know the birds they really have no clue.

Breaking down the draft the keys picks here for the birds are #9 and #10 both are division rivals (Cowboys, Redskins) I think the birds would like to move up to at least the #8 spot to have a jump on a player they really like before the cowboys make their selection. Cowboys are very predictable so I have them taking Prince or JJ Watt. If they can make a trade for in between the 5 or 7th pick I see them drafting Tyron Smith, Nick Fairly or JJ Watt.

These are guys we drafted and in case you missed it we gave the eventual Champs the best run in the p-offs(my opinion). So lower your expectations and look down instead of chin up and thinking things improve.

I know the guys failed in some ways in the draft. But its a crap shoot in many ways. No excuse for the out of position guys but thats overblown.

Dawk lets say you are the cardinals and you have the 5th pick. You just dont like whats out there in the first round and youre hopeful to land a Andrew Luck next year cause your just not big on these QB class this year. Eagles make you an offer. 23rd pick plus next years 1st pick. All the sudden your eyes light up saying if I land at least a 10th pick next year and the eagles pick too I have a chance to go up and get a player like luck. Just a scenario that could happen

We need another undersized defensive end with a high motor, and a pass rush specialist to convert and cover tight ends in the flat. “A Tweener”.

Let’s not address the corner position…Reid told us last season that
“Were fine there”.

Oh yeah guys…Don’t forget now

Our offensive line coach is now our defensive coordinator.

Trades will happen. You dont need to talk to a player to trade him. Its that simple. FA wont happen because you would have to talk to players.

To Dawkplex,

Let me give you an example of a move up trade that only involve Draft Picks and no players..

Let’s say the Eagles really want Buffalo BIlls 3rd Overall Selection in the 1st Round.
The Eagles would contact BIlls and Offer their 1st Round pick (#23 Overall)
The Eagles 3rd Round Pick (#85th Overall) and maybe a 5th Round Pick
(#153rd Overall)

To Recap
The Eagles send picks #23,#85 & #153 in the 2011 Draft to Buffalo
for the #3rd Overall pick… which is a steep price to play but if you want to move into the Top part of the 1st Round, it will cost you some picks in return
(personally, I don’t think it’s worth it, but that’s just me)

Muimuiman

Trade Kolb to Vikings for the 12th pick in the draft and their 4th rounder. Select Mike pouncey, and Jimmy Smith at 23. Stephen Paea 2nd round. 3rd round, take Safety Tyler Sash. 4th Round, take DE Pernell McPhee, LB Casey Matthews, OT Joseph Barksdale. 5th Round take Alex Green RB, and Demarcus love OT. 7th Round, Brian Roellle LB, Pat Devlin QB, Chas Henry P.

Question? How thrilled will you be with this draft??!?!
