Eagles Grab Another Guard To Help The Offensive Line

One guard wasn’t enough, so the Eagles drafted another offensive guard, this time it was Julian Vandervelde from Iowa. He was second team All-Big-Ten this past year.

Having played for Iowa, you know he’s a physical, run blocking guard, who has arms that look like somebody’s legs.

He stands 6’2″ and weighs 302 pounds. He ran a 5.12 in the forty-yard dash. He bench pressed 225 pounds 25 times.

Vandervelde is excited about being a Philadelphia Eagles. He was hoping they would draft him and he also spoke very highly about Danny Watkins, who was the Eagles number one pick.

The young man is looking forward to working with veteran offensive line coach Howard Mudd, whom he said impressed him during his visit to the Nova Care Complex.

He’s an accomplished singer, who song the National Anthem for President Obama when he came through Iowa on a campaign stop.

This Iowa Hawkeye is a brilliant student who was named to ESPN/CoSIDA District Seven Academic All-America team for third straight year as well as academic all-Big Ten for fourth straight year

Vandervelde speaks both Spanish and Japanese.

Hmm… smart guy… stout blocker… maybe a center to groom for Mudd? Has this kid ever played C? Just a thought. Wouldn’t it be great if he works out to be a starter this year with Watkins at the guards, freeing up Herramans to play RT when healthy!?

Good solid pick who will add Depth and stability to the OL,
Expect him to compete by 2013 for starters spot at LG as Herremans gets older
I think we can officially say goodbye to Nick Cole, Reggie Wells, and even MJG since all not undeer contract, I do see Eagles keeping MJG since he helped them out last year when they were trying to get down to the Roster limit and he agreed to be released and brought back like 2 days later to help the Eagles get under the limit..

Don’t forget the AQ Shipley is back on the Roster and I think Mudd will work with him and he could possibly be the future Center with a good camp/pre-season if there ever is one..

G:

Very impressive. Hopefully he’ll line up against Canty and Bernard (and Austin) and curse them out in Japanese!
