Bernard Hopkins At The Super Bowl Ripping McNabb

He doesn't have an easy job promoting a fight between two guys who have seen their best days. It also doesn't help that Hopkins competes in a sport which nobody cares about anymore.

Hopkins doesn't even get any attention in his hometown despite being one of the greatest fighters of his era.  If he had been born in 1930 he would have been a Philadelphia legend.

Very few sports fans care about boxing.  Take a quick quiz to see how you feel about it.

Who is the heavyweight champion of the world?  What division does Hopkins fight in?

See what I mean?  Interest in boxing is below dog sledding.

He tried to convince ESPN's Jim Rome to buy the fight, but Rome said he wouldn't buy the fight for ten bucks.

So in order to get some attention he starts ripping McNabb at the Super Bowl in Miami.

Is it McNabb's fault that most sports fans in America don't know who Hopkins is.

Bernard has been a great fighter throughout his career but it's too bad his fights are boring.

I've heard that Hopkins started out his appearance down there as a promotion of the fight but turned into a roast of McNabb.

This is like ground hog day because this happens every year with Hopkins.

"The people now say, 'Take him to Arizona, he has a house there,' " Hopkins said. "But my thing is I've been telling you this since after the Super Bowl. At the end of the day, you have a guy that is a front-runner. You have a guy that doesn't even give a hint that he's upset. He smiles. He doesn't show any type of feeling of 'Damn, we're so close and we kicked the bucket."

It looks like Hopkins gets as annoyed by McNabb as we do!

this is a lazy journalism at its best, its the same as the other cities who talk about us throwing snowballs at Santa, because if anyone has been following Philadelphia sports for the past 10 years B-Hop has CONSISTANTLY ripped McNabb over and over and over.. G Cobb, why do you bother wasting everyones time with this stuff, he made comments like this about McNabb after last season, and the season before, and the season before and the.. yea i could keep going.. Stop with the lazy articles!!!!!!! !!!!!

I also want 5 out of here...I really like the dude for all's he's done here, but it seems like it is time for a change. I must admit I have been wrong before on this site.

Either way, Hopkins took a cheap shot there. A blow below the belt if he is doing this for self promotion. How cheezy can he be? Cmmmon man..get some class! Now one thing, 5 will not do the same to this guy. If he replies at all, it will be with dignity.

Kick ""McCho ke"" along with his buddy ,""FATS O"" to the curb and hire Ray Rivera as head coach ,at least we know he will fix this damn defense so the guys can at least tackle some one !!

Its only a matter of time before B-Hop goes back to jail. He will spend his money, go back to crime and fall off the face of the earth.

His opinion does not mean shat.

last time i looked hopkins has not won a title in a long time. the problem with hopkins and people who hate mcnabb is that 5 does not get emotional and where his heart on his sleeve after a won or loss. also, people like hopkins see mcnabb as company for the organization and he not as having street cred like athlethes like hopkins. it funny i like to know what hopkins thought of the qbs we had before we got mcnabb. we all need to keep in mind mcnabb has taken us to consistant level of wining to the point where we complain about wining 11 games and making the playoffs. i rember when the eagles were not seen as one of the leauges top teams. in short all these people bitching about mcnabb as just a bench of ass clowns who did not know, remember, or understand the history of the franchise!!!!!
  • why us  - Funny!
Hopkins tells it like it is we should have gotten rid of McStink a year ago it's over!

Nobody cares about Hopkins and nobody ever will. Does anyone even care about boxing anymore? No. How is it McNabb's fault that he's successful in a popular sport? Boxing is not relevant so being one of the best of his time doesn't mean much.

Ghetto jealousy because McNaab made it and he didn't. It doesn't take a lot of brains to beat someone else's brains out of his head.
  • tightmadness  - Whatever!
I agree with you, G. Boxing is my favorite sport, but the sport is dead. I saw Hopkins in the Las Vegas Airport back in 2007. It seemed like no one knew who he was. When I asked to shake his hand, he acted like he was too busy and in such a hurry. He shook my hand, but he was a disappointment. Now Joe Frazier was great. Next time you see B-Hop ask him wat happened to his boy T.O. in Dallas.

I just read an article in the Inquirer on this story. Apparently it all relates to an incident where Hopkins met McNabb and felt like #5 did not give him enough time or respect or whatever. He's been bitchin' & moanin' ever since. Very low class to make this his biggest talking point--for years!
