Notes From The Phillies’ 6-2 Win Over Washington

burnett2The Philadelphia Phillies won their fifth straight game on Friday night, taking down the Nationals 6-2. Their record improves to 42-51.

  • A.J. Burnett anchored the team with 7.2 innings of work, allowing two runs on five hits and four walks.
  • Burnett struck out six, and didn’t allow his runs to score until the seventh and eighth innings.
  • The Phillies jumped on the Nationals early, scoring two runs in the 2nd and 3rd innings.
  • Domonic Brown put the team on the board with a two-run double in the 2nd.
  • Jimmy Rollins supplied a two-run homer in the 3rd.
  • Rollins would hit another homer in the seventh.
  • Cameron Rupp doubled home a run in the sixth. Its the third double Rupp has hit in the last week.
  • Grady Sizemore got a start in centerfield, and went 1-4 and scored a run.
  • Marlon Byrd went 2-4 with his 20th double of the year.
  • Ken Giles got the last out of the eighth, and worked a scoreless ninth.

Final Thoughts

Don’t buy-in to this nonsense.

The Phillies are on a roll right now, but let’s be real here, we’ve been down this road before several times this year with this club.

When they had a successful west-coast trip earlier in the year, the team was supposedly turning it around.

When the team won a weekend series back in late April/early Mary against Washington, they were supposedly turning it around.

And just a few weeks ago, after they managed to sweep the Braves on the road, that was supposedly the turning point too.

This five-game winning streak is just another flash in the pan, folks. Its another tease, just like the team’s other high points. Its more false hope purchased with Fool’s Gold.
