There's an article on PhiladelphiaEagles.com, which says that the Birds were working out tight ends today at practice. There are a number of reasons that the Eagles would have for taking a close look at some tight ends.
Here's how the article read:
Eagles Working Out Tight Ends?
Towards the end of today's practice, some of the Eagles coaching staff was working out several players on an area adjacent to one of the practice fields. Judging by the routes the three unknown players were running, they appear to be tight ends. No word yet on their identities, but stay tuned to PhiladelphiaEagles.com for more information when it comes in.
They could have been working them out because they need some bodies to play tight end in practice with Ingram and Schobel not practicing. This wouldn't mean that these guys had much of a chance of making the team but it would take some of the worklaod off of Brent Celek and Eugene Bright.
Cornelius Ingram and Matt Schobel haven't been practicing and that puts a lot of pressure the two healthy tight ends. If you wear them down too much, they could wind up getting injured.
This could also mean that Ingram has damaged his knee, will need surgery and is through for the year.
They could be looking far and wide for a replacement.
Finally they may have come to the decision that Schobel needs to be replaced and they're now looking for a tight end who is an improvement.
