More Quick-Hit NFL Notes

Bears RB Cedric Benson doesn’t think it’s enough to just stink it up on the field.

After all, why not stink it up off the field too?  He was arrested early Saturday evening on a boat on Travis Lake in Texas after failing a sobriety test.  He also refuse to put on a life jacket.

-Cowboys safety Roy Williams talks about his deficiencies in coverage:

“I will admit at times, when I had one-on-one situations and you’re head up on a tight end or a receiver that can go left or right, it’s tough,” Williams said Thursday on the Michael Irvin radio show. “I mean, it’s just tough. Sometimes you just hope they don’t throw the ball your way, because sometimes you’re like, if they go inside, you don’t have any help; if they go outside, you don’t have any help.”

-The Dolphins really wanted former first-round pick Bobby Carpenter in the trade with the Cowboys that landed them Akin Ayodele.  As of now, Carpenter is looking like a bust.  The Cowboys didn’t take him the first round with the thinking that he’d back up an aging, broken-down veteran by his third year.

Rookie WR Dexter Jackson (the Bucs second attempt to get a Dexter Jackson that can actually play football) tweaked his hamstring in mini camps.  At first, I thought it was going to be something far more hilarious based on this quote from Jon Gruden.

"I don't want to talk about it. It's nothing serious. He's kind of embarrassed about it and I'm going to leave it at that."

-Ravens QB Troy Smith doesn’t the name of the guy they just drafted who will have a 10x better chance of playing than Smith ever will.

"Last season we had to use all three quarterbacks,” Smith said. “And there's no doubt in my mind that if the chance comes, John Flacco … that's his name, right?"

-The Dolphins, to the surprise of no one, say they have an open quarterback competition.  If the Dolphins are lucky, maybe one of them can actually play.

"We have a quarterback competition,” says head coach Tony Sparano.  “At the end of [training camp] we're going to find out who the best quarterback is," Sparano said. "I was happy with what Chad did, especially from a mental standpoint. From a quarterback, it's all about what he does in the huddle. It's how he takes control. … Chad managed the team fine at the line of scrimmage."
