Veteran Additions To Eagles Roster

When looking at the veteran additions to the Birds roster

from last year, I am sure everyone including myself is saying “Did the Eagles get the ‘playmakers’ that McNabb and Westbrook ask for back in February??”

·         LB Rocky Boiman, formerly of Indianapolis Colts: Signed a 1-year deal with the terms unreleased.  The former Notre Dame player is a high-character guy who can fill in at outside linebacker (good in coverage) and excels on special teams.  The Titans originally drafted the twenty-eight year old in the 4th round in 2002. Won a Super Bowl ring in ’06 with the Colts. Will wear number # 50

  • RB Lorenzo Booker, formerly of Miami Dolphins: Acquired during the 2008 NFL Draft for a 4th round selection in ’08.  Booker is a former highly recruited HS running back, who never really found a home in a crowded Florida State backfield as he mostly split carries with current Jets running back Leon Washington.  After a rookie season on the 1-15 Miami Dolphins (125 yards rushing and 237 yards receiving), Booker will get a chance to finally show his game-breaking ability on the Eagles. Expect to see a lot of him on 3rd downs as he has excellent hands to go along with a quick darting running style.  Even with a crowded halfback group, look for Offensive Coordinator to incorporate versatile offensive sets in training camp where Booker or Brian Westbrook is the single back with the other lining up in a four receiver set.  Booker also got some work as a kickoff return man. Will wear #25

  • WR/KR Brandon “Bam” Childress, formerly of New England Patriots: Signed 2-year deal with the terms unreleased.  The twenty-six year old is a very fast player, who has battled injuries throughout his career.  Signed by the Patriots as an undrafted free agent out of Ohio State in 2005.  Has spent time on and off the Patriots roster in ’05 and ’06 while catching five passes for 39 yards in his career.  Will be called on to play special teams and return kicks for the Eagles. Will wear number # 11

  • DE Chris Clemons, formerly of Oakland Raiders: Signed a 5-year deal with the terms unreleased.  The twenty-six year old comes to the Eagles as a player on the accession as he produced 8 sacks in a limited role for the Raiders (only on the field for 37% of defensive plays).  Will be called on to be a situational pass rusher in the defensive end unit.  Will wear number # 91

  • DT Dan Klecko, formerly of Indianapolis Colts: Signed a 2-year deal with the terms unreleased.  The former Temple University player is a tough football player who recently was moved back to DT after a failed OTA move to fullback.  The Patriots originally drafted the twenty-seven year old in the 4th round in 2003. Has played for two of the best organizations in football in the Patriots and Colts winning Super Bowl rings in ’03, ’04, and ’06. Expect to see a lot of him on special teams and blocking at the goal line. Will wear number # 68
