Tony Siragusa was right when he said the Redskins, “beat themselves today.” The Eagles did not win today, the Redskins lost.
Most fans would be pumped to watch their team drive 82 yards on their opening series to score a touchdown. However, it is frustrating when 22 of those yards were handed to you by your opponents defense committing penalties. Maybe I would have been more excited after Westbrook’s touchdown in the first quarter if we had not just received five free yards from Washington the play before. By the end of the game, the Redskins had a total of 11 penalties for 74 yards.
The Redskins offense was also nice enough to help the Eagles win today. When it was third and goal on the Eagles two yard line, Washington’s Cooley was called for a false start and the Redskins now faced a 3rd down with seven yards to go. They could not convert and settled for a field goal.
Regardless, the Birds did come out of the game with some good plays of their own. They were able to make essential plays at crucial times.
Reggie Brown made a huge play as he caught an off throw from McNabb, scoring his first touchdown of the season. Brian Westbrook also came up huge with both a rushing and a receiving touchdown
McNabb started showing signs that his knee his improving after rushing five times for 39 yards. He also completed 20 passes which allowed him to take over Ron Jaworski’s spot for most completions in Philadelphia Eagles history.
For the first time this season, it actually looked like McNabb was realizing the sense of urgency. He showed emotion after he failed to connect a pass to one of his receivers and he was shown studying plays on the sidelines.
Even though the Eagles have been struggling this season, it was encouraging to see all the smiles on the players faces after the game. It was a much needed win after the brutal loss to the Cowboy’s last Sunday.
Hey, even Andy cracked a smile.
