No Ring But Millions For Birds

The debate for the Eagles is should they tear down this football team and start all over.  Do you think the Birds would be as much of a draw if they were in a rebuilding mold?  Would they get the same buzz in the media? The answer is no.

I know there are some in the Birds organization who feel they should tear this thing down and start all over but would they be able to demand all the millions of dollars from their sponsors without the high expectations which accompany this team and Donovan McNabb at quarterback?

You can argue that Andy Reid and Donovan McNabb haven't been a success because they have won a Super Bowl, but they've been a tremendous success helping Jeffrey Lurie put millions of dollars in his pockets while watching his $195 million dollar investment balloon to $1,000,000,000 billion dollars. You can say they haven't been a success but I'm sure when Lurie is meeting with his financial people they make sure he knows that the formula they have is working.

If they demote or fire Andy Reid, or trade Donovan McNabb, they're going to be described as a rebuilding team.  Rebuilding teams don't have high expectation and therefore can't demand the type of sponsorship dollars the Eagles have been bringing in.  The die hards who are demanding Kevin Kolb don't get a chance to see the bottomline.

I think the Birds will probably do everything they can to bring in a big name wide receiver or two, not just because it's going to help Donovan McNabb.  They're going to bring in a big name wide receiver because it's going to make the cash register continue to go "cha ching".
