I’m Concerned About Jevon Kearse

I was very disappointed in what I saw of Jevon Kearse at the Eagles mini camp.  You know that Jevon went down with a knee injury last season in the overtime period of the second game of the season.

Kearse  had started off the season on fire with two sacks in the first game and 2 1/2 sacks in the second game.  That was very impressive.  What he looked like when he showed up to the Eagles mini camp was not impressive.

Kearse said he weighed 240 pounds but it looked more like230 pounds.  He talked about being in great shape because of all the cardivascular work he's been doing and most of the media members bought it.  I didn't .  I know Jevon has a very high metabolism rate, which means he has trouble putting on and keeping on weight.  It's something he has to work on, just like there are other players who have to make sure they keep excess weight off.  I don't think Jevon has been doing a lot of working out this off season.  I  think he has been doing everything but working out.

I dont' think he's going to be able to put on 30 to 40 pounds of good weight before training camp.  If he does it's going to make him very susceptible to injury.  Guys who go through huge weight changes usually wind neglecting a muscle or joint and wind up spending the year on Injured Reserve.  Kearse had all the time in the world to be in the weight room getting stronger and keeping his weight up.  Most veteran players gain weight when they stop working out, but Kearse's high metabolism causes him to lose weight when he doesn't workout.  He going to have trouble gaining that weight because he loses weight in training camp every year.

Did you check out that picture on the front page of the site of Jevon at the mini camp with his other defensive linemen?  He looks like a string bean compared to his other linemates and understand that the Eagles defensive line is small in NFL terms.  How is a string bean like Kearse going to survive battling offensive linemen who outweigh him by over 100 pounds?  How is he going to stand up to a drive block from an offensive tackle weighing 350 pounds for  4 quarters?  There's no way he'll be able to compete.

I also don't understand why he wasn't up here working out all off season.  He suffered a season-ending injury but they let him go back to Florida to party most of the off season.  That was a mistake.  You can believe I will have my eye on Kearse throughout training camp.  This is why I side with McNabb over all this nonsense, non football items that are brought out to attack him.  The Eagles gave Jevon Kearse about 16 million dollars in a signing bonus and what really has he done for it.  Kearse hasn't been to one Pro Bowl, yet you don't see the media climbing all over him.  His game is built on speed  and he suffered a career threatening injury a year ago and hasn't been around here working out.  If that were the case with McNabb you would hear and read something about it every day.  I don't have anything against Kearse but he shows up to the mini camp weighing at least 20 to 30 pounds under his playing weight.   Yet nobody has been climbing all over him.  Understand that we had a defensive line which couldn't stop the run last year, now our starting left defensive end is considerably lighter than he was a year ago.   I concerned about Kearse and somebody else should be instead of worrying about how Donovan McNabb brushes his teeth.
