Gene Upshaw And The NFLPA 6/9/07

I just got a note from Hall Of Fame Green Bay Packer cornerback Herb Adderly and found out that he's getting $176.85 per month for his NFL pension.  Gene Upshaw who is Executive Director of National Football League Players Association says the union doesn't have enough money to help these guys.  This is ridiculous when you see how much money the league is making.

I went on two strikes as a player.  I went through in 1982 as a Detroit Lions, then I went through another strike in 1987 as a Philadelphia Eagles so that players woud get their fair share of the financial success of the NFL.  That has been accomplished but people like Gene Upshaw want to deny the support of the great players who paved the way for us.  I know of players who are in bad shape physically and financially who deserve to be supported by a league which if overflowing with billions of dollars.  There's going to be a hearing later this month and you can believe that Gene Upshaw is in trouble.

This is classic Phillies.  They sweep a very good team like the Mets then give the accomplishment back by getting beat by the Kansas City Royals.  Fred "Batting Practice" Garcia is throwing nothing but home run balls.  Either he's hurt or through.  You can tell by his attitude that's he's ready to leave here and go back to the American League at the end of the year.

Somebody tell golfer John Daly not to go home and go to sleep.  He says his wife attacked him with a steak knife.  He's better not go home and go to sleep.  Knowing how he likes to eat, I'm sure he's got a lot of steak knives in the house.  Daly had better remember what happened to that Bobbit dude.  She might have been thinking about cutting something off.
