Ok, I’ve had it. I really have. After reading Philly.com this morning (as I always do), I came across an item that infuriated me. The piece by Chuck Bausman didn’t aggravate me in and of itself, but it is about the final straw. He wrote a piece on Sports Illustrated’s Peter King’s latest entry that ranked the 32 quarterbacks in the NFL.
I love King, but I had already read his list and ignored it. He was bored like the rest of us, and needed to fill some space. He ranked Donovan #12 and explained that he didn’t think that he would stay healthy. Read it here:

I could give a rat’s petute about a list like this. Lists like this are made to be argued with. It’s like when VH1 has their Top 100 Rock Albums of all time. So what? It’s just someone’s opinion and I could care less. But this quote from Chuck is what bothered me, and I emailed him about it:
“But McNabb is dealing with more than his injured knee. He's a guy who wants to be the most popular guy in school, but he knows he's not loved, deeply or unconditionally, in Philly. Some fans do adore him; some think he's one of the most overrated players in Eagles history. You better believe that bothers McNabb.”
Where is it a fact that Donovan wants to be the most popular guy? Where is it fact that nonsense like this bothers Donovan? Where? This is utter garbage and is constantly perpetuated by the Philadelphia media and then parroted by the fans. Donovan has done nothing but behave like a class act and perform at a high level on the field. Get off of him. Leave him alone and appreciate what you have in the best QB in Eagles history. I am so sick of people trying to act like they eat dinner with him every night and know his inner-most thoughts.
I for one, feel bad for Donovan and the treatment he gets in this city. Yes, you can talk about the millions he makes and inquire as to why we should feel bad for a guy that is loaded. But it’s more than that. I’ve read myriad articles that talk about how sensitive he is and I think it’s nonsense. All he does is the right thing. He answers questions with the utmost class and dignity. Media members talk about him as though he is all “woe is me” and that’s simply not the truth. Terrell Owens took aim at this guy’s head and all he did was take the high road and behave the right way. And he was still criticized! Donovan can’t win around here.
You want Pacman Jones? You want Michael Vick? You want a bum that is constantly in trouble with the law? You never hear so much as Donovan even being drunk, let alone smashing a stripper’s head into a stage at a gentlemen’s club in Las Vegas. Leave him alone and stop trying to create a story where there isn’t one.
Every year it seems like we read a bunch of stories that talk about “how will Donovan rebound from (insert latest media-made controversy here).” And how has he always rebounded? Perfectly! Injuries aside, the guy continually shows up on Sundays and performs at an insane level. So why must he media vilify such a class act? Does anyone remember 1997 and 1998? Apparently, no one does. I don’t even know how to end this column/rant, but I will say this: If Donovan McNabb hates this city, I wouldn’t blame him one bit.
