My Fantasy League Sleeper Of The Year

I just finished drafting my fifth fantasy league team last night for this season.  Here’s a fantasy football tip:  Don’t draft five teams.  It’s just stupid.

I never really know who my fantasy sleepers are until after I’ve seen at least five drafts or so, and that includes the several that I help some friends with.  I have to get a feel for who is going where.  And I can say that my favorite sleeper this year is Mr. Matt Schaub, QB of the Houston Texans.

My plan at QB is to let everyone else take the big names like Manning and Brady way too high. I’ll look at Donovan in the 4th or 5th, where he usually drops because of “Insert Latest Media-Made Controversy Here.”  This year, when I didn’t nab Donovan in any league, I sat and waited….

….and I waited. I found that I was able to find Philip Rivers late, and then I quickly looked to pair him Matt Schaub.  As with all sleepers, there are reasons that they are sleepers.  There are question marks and you are gambling that they will outperform expectations.  So I didn’t want to pin my fantasy season on Schaub, but if he plays like I think he will, he’ll start over Rivers in no time.

So, what’s the knock on Schaub?  What isn’t the knock on Schaub?  He has a bad offensive line.  His running back is 63-years old.  He has only one major weapon in Andre Johnson.  He plays for Houston.  He has minimal NFL experience.

But, everything I have heard out of Houston is that this guy is no David Carr.  Schaub is confident, has command of the offense and is a leader.  There is a reason that teams have been annoying the Falcons with trade offers for the past few years;  this guy can play.  His upside is worth taking him late, he will surprise you.

If for some reason Schaub stinks up the joint this year, you can forget you ever read this.  If he is bad, then I said it all along that you shouldn’t draft him.
