Eagles Need More Turnovers

It’s unbelievable that the Eagles defense has forced only 11 turnovers in 11 games.  They played much better on Sunday, but still failed to force a single turnover.  They are dead last in the league in turnovers.  This has got to change.

Eagles defensive coordinator Jim Johnson, and safety Brian Dawkins have said that turnovers come in bunches and it's something that you can't control.  I don't thinks it's a coincidence that the Miami Dolphins and New York Jets are near the bottom of the league in turnovers.  I think it's a mentality.  Aggressive defenses with aggressive players force turnovers.  It's as simple as that.  Seattle Seahawks quarterback Matt Hassellbeck is prone to throwing interceptions, but the Birds have to get some pressure on him to force them.   The Eagles will surely win this game, if they can win the turnover battle.

The New England game was the first time this year, that I saw the Birds defense put some vicious hits on the opposing team.  Juqua Thomas came around the corner, popped Tom Brady and let the Patriots know they were in a game.  It set a tone for the Eagles defense.  Safeties, J.R. Reed and Brian Dawkins put some major hits on the Pats receivers, but both of them also had interceptions in their hands but failed to hang onto them.  They must come down with the ball if they get those chances versus Seattle.

The Eagles linebackers and safeties have got to unleash on ball carriers and go after the football when they get the chance.  The defense has to be focused on going after turnovers.  They’ve got to try pulling the football out, when the opportunity presents itself.  The Seahawks will be throwing the ball quite a bit, so the Birds defense has to find a way to get their hands on the football.
