NFL News And Notes

There is a lot going on as we head into the first mini-camps,

so let’s take a look around the league:

-The Eagles better hope that fourth-round pick Jack Ikegwuonu beats his residential burglary case.  Everything was seemingly taken care of by Draft weekend when he took a plea deal.  Not so fast.  His brother declined to accept the deal, so that offer is off the table.

Residential burglary is a Class 1 felony in Illinois and if he’s convicted, he faces a minimum of four years in prison.  Wonderful.

-Ex-Seahawk and Ex-good player Shaun Alexander is scheduled to visit the Cincinnati Bengals next week.  We don’t even know if he would make the team, it looks like he’s been running on the beach the past two years.  He is simply not the same guy that was MVP in 2005.  He would join a crowded backfield that includes Rudi Johnson (2.9 yards per carry last year, Rudi?), Chris “where have I been since being drafted in the first round” Perry and Kenny Irons.

-I’m going to echo G. on this one:  Why is no one accusing Carson Palmer of being a poor leader?  His wide receiver is popping off at the mouth; isn’t that his responsibility?  It certainly was when it happened in Philly.

-Bengals LB Ahmad Brooks has been accused of hitting a woman in the face.  He hit her after she asked to take his other argument – he was yelling at a guy saying he was going to “split his head open” – somewhere else.  If it sounds like Brooks is a class act, it’s only because he is.  Remember this guy had issues before the Bengals drafted him in the supplemental draft, so once again, they should have known.

-The Eagles new jersey numbers are out.  Trevor Laws will have big shoes to fill as he dons #93.  We’ll see if he’s able to get a big paycheck and then struggle to get on the field due to general ineffectiveness.  DeSean Jackson will wear #10.  Apparently, Koy Detmer didn’t do enough to get his jersey retired.

-Former Viking and current free agent (no one wants this guy??) Darion Scott was arrested at 3:30pm yesterday and charged with charges of one count of assault, one count of assault/domestic and one count of malicious punishment of a child.  Wow.

-Guys I wouldn’t trade places with:  Pacman Jones.  The shooter that is in custody for firing the gun in the Las Vegas shooting incident, Arvin Kenti Edwards, told a local Nashville television station that Jones actual paid for the shooting and that he’s framing Edwards.  I don’t know that I believe that, but would I be surprised?  Nope.

-Raiders head coach Lane Kiffin went on the radio today to say how much he loved getting RB Darren McFadden in round one.  This wouldn’t dovetail with what recently released Dominic Rhodes told Sirius Satellite Radio on Tuesday.

“We had like a stable full of running backs that are capable,” Rhodes said. “We went and drafted a guy that – he’s a great runner, don’t get me wrong – but I don’t understand the logic behind it. I don’t really think that (coach) Lane Kiffin wanted to take a running back in the first round, let’s just put it like that. He has to deal with it now, but I don’t think that’s what he wanted to do.”
