Around The NFL

Lots going on in the NFL, so let’s take a look:

-We all know the owners opted out of the current CBA, so I won’t be the 200th person to bring it up.  You know the deal there.

The Raiders cut former third-round draft pick Stuart Schweigert.   The combination of Michael Huff and newly acquired Gibril Wilson made him expendable.  For anyone thinking he could provide safety depth for the Eagles:  think Sean Considine.  This guy likes to get run over.

-Did anyone get a whiff of the contract the Falcons gave rookie QB Matt Ryan?  Are you serious?  Six years, $72 million with $34.75 million in guaranteed money.  He’s taken exactly the number of reps at the NFL level as I have.  This is just the latest illustration that something needs to be done about rookie money.  If the owners want to find a way to be a little smarter with the money that gets paid out, this is the first place I’d look.

Cardinals WR Anquan Boldin and defensive lineman Darnell Dockett are skipping voluntary workouts, apparently to express their displeasure with their contracts.

"I'm excited about the guys who are, (here)," coach Ken Whisenhunt said. "I would be less than honest if I said if I wasn't disappointed that Anquan and Darnell weren't here. But once again, these are voluntary."

-Indianapolis was awarded the site of the 2012 Super Bowl.  I don’t know if anyone is like me, but I couldn’t care less about that stuff.  The Eagles are rarely in it, so I tend not to care where the game is.

-This should make Eagles fans happy:  Giants defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo won’t rule out moving DE-turned-LB Mathias Kiawanuka back to defensive end should Michael Strahan retire.  Don’t forget, Kiawanuka was hurt last year and wasn’t even a part of the Giants Super Bowl run.  And he’s clearly a better end than he is a LB.  Yes, Eagles fans, the Giants are that deep on the d-line.
