I Understand McNabb On This One

There's no question that Andy Reid's benching of Donovan McNabb woke up the Eagles football team.

But I can understand McNabb not wanting to give credit to the benching for getting the team going.  He wasn't the only one stinking up the place. They weren't running the ball before he got benched.  Guys have been dropping balls all season.

Reid had put together a team that couldn't run the ball on third down or on the goalline.  How can you play ball control football if you can't get a first down on 3rd and one?

They were trying to play six wide receivers to keep everybody happy and it was making it hard to get consistent timing.  I've never heard of a team playing six wide receivers.

I think there are numerous players who should have been benched well ahead of McNabb.  I would have already used somebody as an example after the team failed to get into the endzone against the Chicago Bears.

Brian Westbrook hit it on the head when he said that McNabb wasn't getting any help from his teammates.  The running game wasn't existent for most of the season.  How many balls have been dropped?

I hear announcers crying for Peyton Manning because the team's running game is struggling and he doesn't have all his weapons.  If you look at Manning's numbers this year and his stats are no better than McNabb's.  I haven't heard any talk of benching him.

Brett Favre has already thrown four more interceptions than McNabb, yet I haven't read or heard anything about sitting him down.

The middle of the offensive line did a great job on Sunday against the Giants, but where has that been all season?  I thought Jamaal Jackson, Todd Herremans or Max Jean-Gilles should have been sat down at some poiint in the season.

It wasn't so much that they weren't playing well, but I didn't think they were playing hard and showing up ready to play.  They are young guys who were playing on a level lower than they were capable of playing.

Surely during the Bengals game when the Eagles were unable to run the football, one or a few of the team's offensive linemen could have been benched.

Maybe the idiot who was calling 18 passing plays on 18 consecutive 3rd down plays in a Cincinnati wind storm could have been benched.  Oh I forgot that was Reid himself who was doing that.
