Could Reid or McNabb Be Let Go?

Eagles president Joe Banner said it doesn't make sense to keep doing the same thing while expecting different results.

Banner was talking about the recent history of the Eagles. He said he appreciated all the trips to the NFC Championship game but it was time to find a way to get to the next level.

He reasoned that keeping everything the same but expecting different results didn't make sense.

It could mean the Eagles are preparing to make a change with Andy Reid or Donovan McNabb.

There are quite a few quality coaches available, Mike Shanahan and Jon Gruden.  Of course the guy the Eagles are the most familiar with is former offensive coordinator Gruden.

Banner might be enticed by the fact that Gruden went to Tampa Bay a number of years ago and led them to a Super Bowl Championship, after Tony Dungy had taken them to the playoffs year after year.

Dungy, like Reid, had been unable to get over the hump, but Gruden got the job done in his first year at the helm.

The Eagles president may be thinking of bringing Gruden in here to attempt to do the same thing here in Philadelphia.  Gruden is more demanding than Reid and he's a better offensive coordinator.

Gruden wears on players because he's so demanding.  He's much like Larry Brown in that he'll have problems with players if he stays in one place for too long.

At the same time, he might be putting himself in position to jettison McNabb, who wants a contract extension, which would mean boosting his salary from $9 million dollars a year to $15 million dollars a year.

The only problem with moving McNabb is the fact that there aren't any quality quarterbacks available.  If you move McNabb it would mean a series of losing seasons before we had any hope of getting back on top.

Emphasizing the fact that the Reid/McNabb connection hasn't been able to bring home a title.
