McNabb Was Specific With Birds

I've done more background work on what  exactly ESPN's Michael Smith said about the McNabb-Eagles meeting.  It seems that McNabb was specific about what he wants.

Yesterday Smith was on 950 ESPN with Mike Missanelli in the afternoon after breaking the story . I went back and listened to the interview again and again.

He said McNabb would be happy with guys like Anquan Boldin, Tony Gonzalez or T.J. Houshmandzadeh but he’s not going to be happy with somebody’s discarded number two or number three receiver.

He wants veteran impact players.

He also mentioned that being committed to winning a Super Bowl doesn’t mean trading out of the first round and drafting an offensive lineman every year.

According to Smith, the Eagles wanted to keep news of the meeting quiet.  It was a good meeting and a long meeting (a couple of hours).  Both sides put the benching of McNabb at the Baltimore game behind them for once and for all.

That’s where all the positive stuff ends.

According to Smith, McNabb figures he’s about to sign his last contract, so he wants to make sure it’s going to be in the right circumstances where he’s playing for a team that’s committed to winning a Super Bowl championship.

Smith says that it’s not anything new to any one that McNabb has had to play without enough weapons

McNabb knows if something doesn’t go right, he’s going to be the one who is blamed.  Last year he felt he was the fall guy any time the offense sputtered.

Now it’s all about getting more weapons for McNabb.  He doesn’t want to go through more years of playing with a scarcity of weapons.

Smith thinks the benching may have awoken McNabb.  He knows that other franchise quarterbacks get more help every year.

The Colts draft offensive weapons for Peyton Manning every year.  The Patriots went out and got Tom Brady two great receivers, Randy Moss and Wes Welker.

If McNabb is going to stay here he wants to know that the Eagles are committed to building a Super Bowl championship team by giving him more weapons.
