Officer Delays RB Moats As Relative Dies

Ryan Moats was delayed twenty to thirty minutes downstairs by a Dallas police officer outside of a hospital as his mother-in-law lay dying in the Plano, Texas hospital.

The incident started when Moats and his wife got a call from a nurse at the Plano hospital telling them that his wife's mother was moments from dying.  They jumped in the car and set out for the hospital.

A Dallas police officer saw Moats and his wife speeding by in their automobile with their hazard lights blinking.  They approached a red light, came to a complete stop, looked both ways and proceded through the red light.

They pulled into the driveway in front of the hospital and Moats' wife and a friend of the family jumped out of the car and started running into the hospital.

The police officer gets out of his vehicle, pulls his weapon out and yells at the two women telling them to stop.  They stop for a moment, then ignore his demands and run into the hospital in their attempt to reach her mother before she dies.

The officer held Moats outside and demanded his insurance while threatening to arrest him or tow his car.  Moats continuously tries to explain the situation but the officer won't listen.

Two nurses come out of the hospital and downstairs and try to explain the situation to the officer but he won't listen.

Next up, another officer comes down and tells his fellow officer that he should let Moats go upstairs to see his dying mother-in-law but the officer refuses to listen.

The officer eventually issues Moats a ticket for going through the light and the Texans running back went upstairs to see his mother-in-law, who had passed by then.

Moats said all he could was hold her hand as she lay motionless in the bed.

The entire incident was caught on tape and it looks and sounds very bad.

I'm not the kind of person who is against the police because we ask them to put their lives on the line day in and day out for us, but this is a case of a cold-hearted policeman.  He could very likely lose his job over this and righttfully so.
