Will Andy Reid Ever Change?

Written By Fade 2 Black – Personally I think a little change would go a long way for Coach Reid. Many in Eagles Nation feel strongly that an adjustment here and a tweak there is all the Birds really need to get to a Super Bowl and win the darn thing.

Coach Reid does get you pretty close with consistency and most will admit that’s his strength. Five NFC Championship Games in 10 years? That’s a solid B grade if not a B plus or an A. Think of it like 5 NCAA Final Fours or at least as 5 Sweet Sixteen appearances to put it in perspective.

Whether it be College Hoops or the NFL, that’s an awesome achievement. Big Red is standing on a record that is very comparable going into his 11th season with the Birds.

But those who scream for change still find themselves waiting with frustration. The Coach barely addresses issues that fans sit around and blog about or call talk radio shows about. And when he’s heard, his messages are often mixed or unclear. So some of us have become concerned that Reid will never change at all.

Blue Chip Receiver over 6’1” and 200 pounds. Bigger Back to complement Brian Westbrook.  Effective pass rusher opposite Trent Cole.  Pass to rush ratio on offense closer to 55 percent and 45 percent.

That’s about it. The rest is covered. A relatively short list of fixes like that could get it done. The question is, will the Head Coach and President of Football Operations change his ways just a bit and let us see what happens? We are going to explore both sides of that question.

Here Are 5 Reasons Why Coach Reid Might Never Change…

One: Reid is rigid in his thinking and would rather be right than be flexible. He would almost rather die than win while being proven wrong! Ever meet somebody like that? They will stick to their guns forever, even when others can see they are not being practical.

Two: Big Andy is into control and won’t hire any offensive coaches who might challenge him with a fresh idea or two about his scheme and his players. All hope left here with Brad Childress. Mornhinweg will just go with the flow.

Three: The Birds organization doesn’t really want to win, just stay competitive, and so Reid is down with the program. You see, Reid would love to go for it and win, but Joe Banner doesn’t want to pay the price. JB has got the purse strings so that’s the end of that. Hey, we all need a job!

Four: Big Red is just the wrong coach at the wrong time and should be replaced.! But he lucked up against a weak NFC East for 10 years and now he has a track record. It is what it is and we are stuck with it. So quit whining!

Five: Finally, it’s an Evil Conspiracy to tick off the Fans. Even though “the Billy Penn Curse” was lifted by the Phillies – and don’t forget the Soul! – the hangover from the curse is still going on at the Nova Care Center and Coach Reid is at the heart of it.  Suffer and worship at the Midnight Green throne! OK?

And Here Are 5 Reasons Why Coach Reid Will Change And Soon…

One: Reid is tired of hearing us whine and he can’t stand it anymore!  Hahaha. That’s a remote possibility. But if you believe that one, I have a great real estate deal in Iraq I want to talk to you about.

Two: Coach Andy has been bullet proof for years, but his job is finally on the line. He’s got a 2-year window to get it done and he knows it. It’s come down to this year, next year or never. At least not here in Philadelphia!

Three: Our Iggles Coach has looked at the Bill Cowher example. He noticed that Coach Bill brought in some assistant coaches that went against some of his own tendencies. And guess what? In his 13th season with the Stillers, Old Bill finally grabbed the brass ring. Reid is going to follow that example.

Four: Reid will change starting now because Joe Banner and Jeff Lurie told him to change. JB’s famous “Keep doing things the same way” comment has some teeth in it. And he meant it for Reid to hear. So change is on the way courtesy of Mr. Banner himself.

Five: Lastly, Reid was sentimental about Buckhalter. Now that Buck is gone he’s going to have no choice but to have a complementary back with knees the team can depend on. It’s what he wished he could have done for a long time anyway. Running game here we come! The balanced attack is back!

Well OK GCobb Dot Com’ers! What do you believe? Now is your chance to chime in on either side of the argument or tell me I’m a total moron for writing about it like this. Either way, Happy Blogging you all. And thanks, G!
