Donovan McNabb was clowning and laughing with his new teammates all weekend long, but the question is how long will he be doing that in an Eagles uniform.
McNabb wouldn't talk this weekend at the mini camp and I'm failrly sure that it's because he would have been asked about his contract.
I think the Eagles are holding off giving him an extension until they see how this season goes.
I believe McNabb is in a position where he and the team must have a great season in order for him to get an extension of his contract. The Eagles think Kevin Kolb is ready but McNabb is going to have to start to decline before they take the job from him.
Andy Reid has a bond with McNabb and he's not going to allow the rug to be pulled from under him until a major slide in his play begins.
McNabb has two years remaining on his deal and he made it clear at the end of this past season that he wanted an extension. There was reportedly a meeting between his agent, Fletcher Smith and the Eagles president, Joe Banner.
That information was leaked from McNabb's side of the discussions. Nothing else has been reported because I don't think there is anything else to report.
This weekend, I walked by McNabb and he had nothing to say. You could tell it was a plan because he stayed away from the media all weekend long. In the past if you were to get near him, he couldn't help but tell you how he feels.
Usually he's around cracking jokes and playing around when we, the media, come in the locker room but this weekend he was no where to be found.
There's little doubt about it that McNabb realizes that the addition of Jeremy Maclin, LeSean McCoy and Cornelius Ingram will make his job easier when the season gets here.
The difference was very apparent on Sunday morning in the red zone work when he was firing the ball down the middle to the new tight end, Ingram. This is a target he hasn't had in the past.
The kid is big and fast with great hands.Teamed up with Celek, they're sure to make an impact in the red zone.
That's also the truth with Maclin who when teamed up with DeSean Jackson is going to be a serious headache for all the secondaries throughout the NFL. Finally McNabb has the speed he has always wanted, but for how long.
Can he come out gunning and playing at a level which forces the Eagles to give him a new deal?
Reid seems to be helping McNabb by rushing these kids along, in preparation for the season. I think he feels he owes it to McNabb and the team.
McCoy has a lot of the qualities we have seen in Brian Westbrook; such as great vision, the ability to cut on a dime, a great feel for the game and a tremendously high football acumen.
One of these quarterbacks will benefit from these talented young players for years to come.
Will it be McNabb who said he plans on playing into his late 30's or Kolb, who feels like he's ready to take the helm?
Here's McNabb standing between two of his young weapons, Ingram and Maclin.
