The Teaching Continues Today

The Eagles rookies will go back to work this morning and Andy Reid will put in more of the offense and Sean McDermott will put in more of the defense.

Each time the Birds work intensely with these guys, then give them a break, the coaches can clearly assess how quickly they're all coming along.

The wise players will study hard during the time off and become more sure about what they've already seen.  Other foolish players will go home and party as if they've already made the team. They'll be walking around in the Eagles sweatsuits, practice shorts and t-shirts.

Many times the fans and friends back home think the player is already on the team, but the truth is they're getting a shot to make the team.  These youngsters go back home when they get some time off and get distracted by the increased attention and forget to spend the time they needed studying.

If one of the players gets behind, it becomes more and more difficult for them to catch up while working with the rest of the group. Chances are they'll have to work with them one on one on their own.

It's very important that they all grasp an understanding of what the coaches are trying to accomplish with each offensive play and each defensive front and coverage.  Knowing your assignments is sufficient initially but over time they must understand why they're doing what they're doing.

Right now there's not much of a seperation of which ones are picking it up and which ones aren't but that will be revealed soon.

When Marty Mornhinweg puts in another series of plays and formations this morning it will cause some of the rookies to go into overload.  The ones that still have a grasp of it all, will look much better during the practice.
