McNabb Talked To The Media

Donovan McNabb spoke to the media today and said his contract will take care of itself. McNabb talked to a few reporters at his football camp on Saturday.

I applaud McNabb for saying very little about what's going on with his contract.  He has nothing to gain by talking to the media about it.

I read the article in Philly.com and it's if he's doing something wrong by not divulging what is being said in the negotiations.  They say he's being vague about his contract..

Are we going to read that it's a lack of leadership to talk to the media about his contract?

The fact that Joe Banner and the Eagles are willing to talk to him about guaranteeing the last two years of his contract speaks volumes.  You and I know that Banner and the Eagles don't just throw money around.

You also know how frugal they are when it comes to paying players, not to mention rengotiating contracts.

I was on the radio last night talking about McNabb's contract and a number of the callers didn't want him to get any more money in the next two years.

They asked whether it would guarantee him playing better.  I said no it wouldn't, so they didn't want him to get any more money until the Eagles win a championship.

Andy Reid has been promoted without the team winning a championship.  Other players have gotten increases in pay without the team winning a championship.

A lot of fans want to use a different measuring stick for McNabb than the rest of the team.  For McNabb they say win a championship or else.

Yet these same people cried and belly-ached about Brian Dawkins being shown the door.  How many championships did Dawkins lead us to?

The same people were in favor of Brian Westbrook getting a new deal.  How many championships did he lead us to?

Just like McNabb could have made plays with those championship games on the line to win it all, Dawkins, Westbrook and everybody else on the team could have done the same thing.

The people who promote the thinking that winning a championship is all about the quarterback, don't know much about football.  Teams win championships, not individuals.  Individuals contribute but teams win championships.

If you don't believe that then ask LeBron James.
