Jimmy Rollins And The Pitching

Playing the the New York Mets last weekend has like a medicine prescription for the Phillies pitchers and hitters.  The Phils fresh off a weekend sweep of the Mets continued their improved play by destroying the Reds 22-1.

It was an old-fashioned beat down which took place at Citizen Bank Park, last night.  The Phils put up a 10-spot in the first inning and didn't look back.

The Phils formula for winning four games in a row has been simple.  Jimmy Rollins and their pitching.

If Rollins is getting on that's going to mean that they're scoring runs.  If they get solid outings by their starters it will take pressure off the bullpen and they'll win consistently

It was a much-needed solid outing for pitcher Cole Hamels, who cruised through seven innings and only allowed one run.   This was what is expected out of Hamels, their number one starter.

Quite a few Phils had big nights, but it all starts with Rollins.  He was three for four with four runs scored and one RBI. He continued with another good game after having an outstanding series against the Mets.

Shane Victorino was four for five, with five RBI's and five runs scored.

Chase Utley was two for three with four RBI's and one run scored.

Jason Werth was two for five with five RBI's and two runs scored.

They just scored run after run in a laugher.

Still the key to the whole thing is J Roll.  When he gets on base it puts constant pressure on the opposing pitching staff and they can't make any mistakes in a hitter's park like Citizen's Bank.

This team went into the Mets series struggling but Rollins had a big weekend and  the pitching was solid. Now they're on a four game winning streak with a chance to go into the All-Star weekend with some momentum.
