Jeff Carter’s production

Last year was Jeff Carter’s coming out party in the NHL but like many Flyers, he seemed to fade away down the stretch.  The difference with Carter is if he doesn’t light the lamp he is ineffective for the club.

Carter mustered up 46 goals last season, the most of any Flyer since Gagne in the 2005-06 season.

I am not one to drink the cool-aid with Carter.  I love the support that John Stevens shows to his players but c’mon, Jeff Carter is not winning the Selke Trophy any time soon.  If we are all talking about Carter’s defensive play this season then something is probably not going right.  I know he played the penalty kill last year, yada, yada, yada… he has one job on this club and that is to produce offensively and score goals.

Carter went through a very long stretch last season where he looked ineffective.  The Flyers can ill afford that type of production this time around.  He can no longer fly under the radar.  He will be playing against the other team’s best defensive tandem night in and night out and he has to find a way to be productive like all the great forwards are able to do.
