Kevin Kolb Has Put Himself In Line For Starting QB Job

Kolb throws the ball I think Eagles 3rd year quarterback Kevin Kolb’s performance yesterday puts himself in line to be the starting quarterback here after Donovan McNabb is shown the door and probably sped up his exit.

Up until this year, Kolb hadn’t proven he could be a legit quarterback in the National Football League, but after the last two weeks, he proved that he could indeed lead a team in this league.

Kolb made good crisp decisions yesterday, threw the ball with accuracy and didn’t make any major mistakes.

He became the first NFL quarterback to throw for over three hundred yards in this first two starts.

Kolb is a system quarterback who will do his damage from the pocket and he lit up the pathetic Chiefs secondary.  The fact that the offensive line played great and DeSean Jackson and Brent Celek were able to get open consistently made his job a lot easier.

Kolb makes a throwI thought Kolb played well yesterday but I can’t say that he’s going to be a great NFL quarterback.  He had ideal conditions for throwing the football and he went out there and took advantage of it.

“I don’t even feel like I played a game,” Kolb said. “I don’t know if I got touched today. I truly believe if you put a lot of quarterbacks in that situation where they’re not going to get touched, they’re going to throw for 300 yards.”

To be a great quarterback he must be able to do the job with defenders pressuring him while his  receivers are covered.  He will have to buy time with his feet and keep his attention downfield.

He’ll have to make throws on the move to his left and to his right, yet put them on the money.

We’ll see how he does if he gets more chances this year.

I also wonder where Michael Vick stands in the future of the Eagles.  I know that Andy Reid thinks he can make him a better quarterback than he’s ever been.

Reid feels that a year of working on his decision-making process in the west coast offense and focus on his correcting his throwing fundamentals can make him a great quarterback.

Who does Reid like more Kolb or Vick?  I personally think he likes Vick more, but he can’t ignore Kolb’s performance.

Vick said that he thought he played well yesterday, I don’t think I agree with that.

I thought the Chiefs did a better job of defending him than they did of anything else.
