Myers not coming back

For of those of you who tired of Brett Myers inconsistent pitching and off-field issues, you are getting your wish.  Ruben Amaro, Jr. told Myers that the team will not be attempting to re-sign him.

He will file for free agency today, but was officially done with the club while the Yankees were dancing on their home turf in Yankee Stadium.

“Actually I‚Äôm not as disappointed as I thought I‚Äôd be,” Myers told the Inquirer. “I don‚Äôt know if it‚Äôs because other things are in front of me, blurring my vision. I‚Äôm packing and getting ready to drive home (to Jacksonville, Fla.) tomorrow.

“It just didn‚Äôt hit me as hard as I thought it would. I kind of felt it coming.¬† I was just like, ‘OK, thanks for putting up with my (stuff),’ ” Myers said. “He thanked me and wished me and my family well. I‚Äôll miss the guys on the team and the fans who have supported me. Hopefully I‚Äôll be playing against the Phillies and when I do I want the roughest treatment the fans can give me ‚Äì when I‚Äôm pitching. I‚Äôm an opposing player ‚Äì you have to give it to me.”

Not sure that you are important enough for Philly fans to want to boo, Brett.  But whatever.

He did say that Amaro gave him no reason for why they wouldn’t be re-signing him.¬† If I had to wager a guess, it’s probably because he’s not very good at baseball.

“The last two years, going to the World Series and all, have been exciting,” he said. “Other than that, I‚Äôm disappointed with how I did the last few years. My last three years weren‚Äôt as productive as I would have liked.”

Myers also said that he’d be open to signing with another team as a starter or a reliever.¬†
