Don’t Buy The Media Hype About The Saints

Brees throwing the ballYou’re going to hear more and more as the season continues about how invincible the New Orleans Saints and the Indianapolis Colts are.

It would be a great promotion for the NFL to have two undefeated teams playing each other in the Super Bowl.  The ratings would probably be great and we would all get tired of seeing stories on Peyton Manning and the Drew Brees.

We all know that there are many times when sports doesn’t follow the pattern everybody thought it would.

Looking at the two undefeated teams and other teams in their conferences, I think the Vikings and the Chargers will be tougher to beat in the playoffs the way things are going than the Colts and the Saints.

Saints receiver on the move Let’s take a look at the Saints for instance and how they struggled to beat a Falcons team whom the Eagles had embarrassed the previous week.  The Saints got a couple of phantom pass interference calls to set up scores.

Then Chris Redman missed a couple of wide open receivers in order for New Orleans to hang onto the victory.  Redman who looked like a joke against the Eagles, led his team up and down the field against the Saints.

We can also think about how good the Saints defense made Jason Campbell look.  He had his best game of the season and the Redskins had to miss a 23 yard field goal in order to lose to the Saints.

I’m not saying the Eagles will beat the Saints in the playoffs but I am saying that it is possible and don’t buy the hype.

Don’t get me wrong, New Orleans is unbeaten and an outstanding football team, but they’re not unbeatable.

The Indianapolis Colts have won more games, 114, this decade than any team in history and they have the chance to win more.

Still they have only one Super Bowl title and have been to the AFC Championship game only three times in that period.

They are normally a better regular season team than they are a post season team.
