Eagles Can’t Take It For Granted, But They Should Win

Dumervil rushing passerThe Eagles should win this football game and they should win it handily.  The Broncos defense isn’t dominating and can’t control all of the weapons the Birds have at their disposal.

The Denver offense is pedestrian in comparison to the Birds so the Eagles have to play down to the Broncos if they are to lose this game.

First of all Denver linebacker/defensive end Elvis Dumveril must have a big game.  He was one of the big reasons that the Broncos got off to such a fast start.

He began the season on a tear and seemed to be on his way to breaking the single season sack record but teams have adjusted and the Broncos have struggled because of it.

He’s a undersized pass rusher who uses his quickness and leverage to get under big offensive linemen and either power, spin or dive his way to the quarterback.

Marshall fighting for yardageHe’s listed as standing on 5’11” which makes him difficult to handle for some of the big offensive lineman because he gets so low.

If Jason Peters, Winston Justice and the rest of the Eagles block Dumervil, I don’t see any way their secondary can stop the Birds from making big plays down field.

I want to the see the Eagles keep the Broncos defense honest by running the football.  It will make Dumervil’s job nearly impossible if he has to worry about the run while trying to put pressure on Donovan McNabb.

The second thing that needs to happen for the Eagles to not get their 11th win of the season, is that they have to struggle in the red zone.

They’re going to move the ball and gain a good deal of yardage against Denver but they must put points on the board and not come away with field goals.

If they have success in the red zone, I expect to put 30 to 40 points on the board and there’s no way the Bronco offense can keep up with that.

Finally the Eagles defense has to play the way they did against the Giants.  They have to blow coverages, miss tackles and allow the Broncos to go up and down the field.

Denver’s superstar wide receiver Brandon Marshall will have to break his record of 21 catches in a single game, if the Eagles are to lose.

Bronco quarterback Kyle Orton will have the best game of his NFL career.

I doubt all of this is going to happen, so I see the Birds getting their 11th win of the season.
