McNabb Says He’s Not Overwhelmed By This Big Game

McNabb lets it goWhy are they getting so worked up, was the question Donovan McNabb posed as he was walking through the Eagles Nova Care Complex to get to yet another offensive meeting, earlier today.

I knew McNabb was talking about the media during the earlier news conference.

See, despite all of the articles and comments by the media covering the game, McNabb wants to act like he has been in and won a lot of big games.

Don’t get me wrong he’s excited and eager to play this game but he’s not going to be running around screaming at the top of his lungs about how important this game is.

I had to laugh a little bit when McNabb said he didn’t even look at all of the Vikings-Bears game on Monday night.  He had the nerve to say he turned it off at halftime with the Bears leading 13-0.

I would have had to have been there to believe that

McNabb said it wasn’t a big deal because the Eagles would still have to beat the Cowboys to get the second seed whether Minnesota lost or not.

I laughed inside because McNabb was sure to have gotten that game on Monday with the second seed on the line, but he plays this game with the media by refusing to make a big deal out of anything they say or ask.

Still the Eagles can get too worked up about this game because that’s not the way you play well.

In fact the Birds made a decision after the lost to the Chargers to treat all of these games like they were playoff games.  They’ve done that in other years as well because it helps players increase their focus and come to really understand the importance of the game.

McNabb and guys like Brian Westbrook realize the importance of this game but they also know that you play your best football when you’re focused on your assignments and not what they’re saying about the game on internet, television or in the paper.

In addition, they know that there’s no need in celebrating too much if and when you win because that will only mean you’ve accomplished part of the goal, but still there’s much more to be done.

I had to laugh at a comment Cowboys head coach Wade Phillips made today when he answered a question about he and Tony Romo not being able to win big games.  He said according to the media, they’re only big games when you lose them.

That’s so true because, both of these teams and these quarterbacks wouldn’t be in this game on Sunday if they hadn’t won big games in the previous weeks.
