Kolb talks about his status with the team

Eagles QB Kevin Kolb spoke recently with the Fort Worth Star-Telegram on his status with the team.  He says that he hasn’t spoken to Andy Reid about his status with the team since the season ended.

That’s probably because even Andy doesn’t know how all of this will exactly play out.  You never know what someone will or won’t offer you in trade for any of the three QB’s on the roster.  So instead of worrying about what’s going to happen, Kolb is just bass fishing down in South Texas.

“I want to be a starter in the NFL,” Kolb said in a telephone interview Thursday with the Star-Telegram. “That‚Äôs my No. 1 goal right now. I want that opportunity. But I‚Äôm going to be a team player. I trust [coach] Andy [Reid]. I trust his decisions and his ability to see what‚Äôs in the future and plan out my career the right way. Hopefully, we‚Äôll do those things to get me on the field at some point, not knowing when it‚Äôs going to be.”

Kolb says he doesn’t try to pay too much attention to the media speculation.

“I‚Äôm hearing reports from my friends and family, but for the most part, I‚Äôm trying to avoid it,” Kolb said. “I‚Äôm just taking time off, working out and relaxing my mind a little bit.”

He admits that it’s been a little frustrating, especially after the two 300-yard passing games he had this year.

“It was tough, because I really felt like this year was the best as a player I‚Äôve ever been,” Kolb said.

“Coming out of the preseason and having those [regular-season] games for some momentum and finding my groove at this level, I felt like I could have been a good, consistent starter and wanted to face that challenge. At the same time, Donovan had an unbelievable year. He was very consistent this year, and we went 11-5. I see both sides; I always have. I‚Äôm always a team player first. At the same time, I wish I could have been out there.”

Say this about Kolb, he always seems to say the right things.  We all know he wants to play and you’d have to think it’s killing him inside.  But he doesn’t whine and complain about it.
