I Know I’ve Seen This Act Before Somewhere

First of all let me make this disclaimer, I don’t know for sure that Donovan McNabb will be traded.¬† The Eagles have not said publicly that he’s going to be traded.

I also try to make it a point of the looking at the good and the bad with regards to Andy Reid and the Eagles.¬† They’ve accomplished everything but win a Super Bowl.

Still, having said that, if the Eagles are trying to trade McNabb, they are surely screwing it up.

They’ve waited until a lot of the would be trading partners have made moves to satisfy their quarterback needs, before they let them know that McNabb was available.

How could you make this mistake?

It’s as if this off season has been a big 4th quarter, 3rd down situation and we’re seeing the Eagles struggle with making a prompt decision.¬† Are we surprised?¬† You may be but I’m not.

Do these couple of months of indecision remind you of something?¬† This is the same group that can’t make up its mind about what play to call in key situations, as the play clock runs down.

How many times have we seen McNabb waiting for the play to come in and priceless seconds were running off the clock?

McNabb and Reid If this isn’t irony, I don’t know what irony is.¬† McNabb hs been left in limbo for years in key situations as the sideline is unable to make a decision.¬† It’s fitting that it would happen again as they try to trade him.

Reid and Joe Banner have done interviews during this off season where they have said they hadn’t yet gotten around¬† to making decisions about the quarterbacks.

When I heard this, all I could do was look at the television screen in disbelief.

They should have made their decision about the quarterbacks immediately after the playoff loss to the Dallas Cowboys.  Why would you wait week after week and refuse to make the most important decision?  That decision helps you make the other off season decisions.

What exactly could they have been doing that was more important than making a decision about their quartebacks?  Indecisiveness and the inability to make prompt decisions has been a problem this team has had for the decade that Reid has been here.

He has his strengths such as putting together an offfensive game plan, preparing a team for the season and staying consistent during the ups and downs of the season but this indecisiveness has cost them games and it’s never been addressed.

McNabb and Reid At key moments with the game on line, they’ve had to waste timeouts and had delay of game penalties throughout the 11 years he’s been here.

I could see it now, there’ll be less than two minutes to go in upcoming game with the Eagles trailing and quarterback Kevin Kolb will be standing outside the huddle looking toward the sideline and waiting for the play to come in, as the clock runs down.

The Eagles will get a delay of game penalty or waste a valuable time out because of their inability to make a decision.¬† It’ll probably cost them the game.

It won’t be addressed in the post game press conference and it won’t be addressed in the next week of preparation.¬† It won’t be addressed in the next close game, either.

McNabb won’t be here but the same thing will be going on.¬† I wonder why.

If the Eagles indeed want to trade McNabb for a valuable draft pick, their inability to make a prompt decision may have cost them a valuable draft pick.

This team desperately needs additional draft picks so they can address their defensive needs.

Here they have the best quarterback available this off season, but they’re in a position where they may wind up having to give him away.

For those of you who are so sure we’re trading away the reason we haven’t won a championship, I want you to think about this situation.

Doesn’t it have the same look of the indecision we see all the time on the Eagles sidelines?
