Pouncey Will Tempt Eagles But The “D” Needs Help

The Eagles are going to be tempted to pick Florida center Maurkice Pouncey with their first pick, but that won’t be easy to give into after looking at the gaps they have on their defense.

The defensive line could use some help.  The same is true of the linebackers, as well as the secondary.

They need to add a dominating player to their defensive line.¬† A dream come true would be for one of the two top defensive linemen to still be on the board into the late teens which would allow the Birds to make a trade and move up to get Georgia Tech’s Derrick Morgan or USF’s Jason Pierre-Paul.

Either one of these guys would make the Eagles defense better immediately.

They need help at the lnebacker positon, but I don’t think the Eagles would do anything to address those needs with a first round pick.

Stewart Bradley will return but there’s no telling how quickly he’s gonig to regain his form.¬† Akeem Jordan did a decent job at the weakside spot in the past, so I think he will be given the first opportunity at the starting job.

It looks like they’re going to give both Chris Gocong and Moise Fokou opportunities to start on the strongside.¬† We know Gocong can’t do the job, the only question is will the light turn on from Fokou in his second year.

I think he’s capable but he’s got to play smarter football.

In the secondary, I could see them trading Sheldon Brown.¬† If they do, they’ll have to replace him and I don’t know if they have a guy on their roster who is good enough to do that.

Disregard the nonsense about the Eagles acquiring Pro Bowl corner Nmandi Asomugha. There’s no way they would accept that $16 million dollar salary.¬† He would have to agree to a major salary reduction.

Joselio Hanson would get the first shot, then it’s anybody’s guess.

Asante Samuel will be lining up on the other side and Quintin Mikell will be at strong safety.

They would love to get a shot at Texas weak safety Earl Thomas, but it would mean moving up to get him.  How far would they be able to go and how long will he be on the board?

Taylor Mays is an option but I don’t think they will go in that direction, so on draft day I would watch the defensive ends and Thomas.

I know you probably don’t want to hear is trading down.¬† I could see them trading out of the first round and stacking up picks in the second round.

Remember that this is supposed to be one of the NFL’s deepest drafts.
