Asante Samuel Calls Out Reid and Front Office

Last week Andy Reid told some reporters that Eagles cornerback Asante Samuel needed to play better than he did a year ago.He even added that Samuel was lifting weights to improve his tackling.

Comcast Sportsnet’s Derrick Gunn says Samuel texted him a reply to what Reid had said and it probably wasn’t what the head coach wanted hear. Here’s the quote word for word.

“The whole team needs to improve from the front office, to the head coach to the players”.

I agree with what Samuel had to say.¬† He didn’t mince words.

Reid doesn’t like players challenging him in the media, but the big question is.

Will Reid respond to Samuel’s response?

It was a childish comment. We all agree Samuel is a good CB, but needs to improve his tackling. The coach can scheme, plan, and tell the players – hey watch the WR screen – but at that point, the CB has to make the tackle. Now – in the ‘Sybil’ mode of all Gcobb posters – here you have a situation where the HEad Coach actually pointed out all is not perfect, and the player snorts of typical teen-age response – so are the Fo haters going to say a) gee, glad the head coach acknowledged people have some work to do or b) good, the employee, despite clearly needing to work in the area mentioned, smarted off to the boss

They are both little babies, but Andy is less little than Asante. Andy should tackle his stomach and Asantee should make his first real tackle.

His comment was well justified. They ALL need to step it up, coaches included.

I agree with Asante…How idiotic can you be to send a Hall of Fame QB out of town that had a better season than 98% of the league last year and think that you wouldn’t be challenged? I can see how this will play out…Asante traded on draft day, Ellis Hobbs and Macho Harris are your starting corners. LOL.LOL.

A Sammuel is the most overrated CB in the NFlL,
He’s way overpaid, a selfish player who consistently shys away from physical contact..
On top of all this, he’s a cancer in the lockeroom with “Do you own thing” attitude
I would trade him maybe to Oakland with a 3rd Rd pick for their shutdown CB Asomougah..

Paulman – A third rounder would be too much considering Namdi’s Pay. I would move him only for a 2 or 3 or a solid young player.

I like Namdi but he is 28 and I think the Birds are looking for those 21-25 y/o guys that can grow better and better over the next 5-10 years.

Asante has to stick. No way we can get two CBs that can start in the draft or free agency this year.

The real question is: Why didn’t we trade Asante to the Browns and re-up Sheldon with some extra cash? At least Sheldon plays tough and with some leadership…

It’s good to know I’m not alone in my assessment of A Samuel. There is a good reason Belecheck let him walk, b/c he is selfish. I wouldn’t lose any sleep if he was traded for the right value.
Here’s a guy that wants to be the star of his own show.

When I compared his stats to Nmadi A of Oakland.. In eight years time, Asante has more INTS, Tackles, and has deflected more passes….Yeah hes not a great tackler, but neither was Deion Sanders… If the eagles had the same pass rush that the Patriots D had in the SB against us years ago, He would be leading the league in INTs every year..
