Kolb Thanks McNabb And Says Young Eagles Are Ready

Kevin Kolb just completed his first news conference as the Eagles starting quarterback and he had nothing but great things to say about the guy he was replacing Donovan McNabb.

“I assume we’re going to talk in the next couple days, and I just want to wish him the best,” Kolb said. “The guy’s been nothing but 100 percent professional with me, and a good friend. I will always look back to what he did for me and the way he treated me and hopefully I can be the same way for some other kid when he comes around.”

One thing he insisted on emphasizing was his contention that although the Eagles would have a young football team, he would not accept the fact that they were rebuilding.

The youngter said that the Eagles goal of winning the Super Bowl wouldn’t change from what it had been when the Birds had more veteran on the team.

“That’s our No. 1 goal,” Kolb said of winning the Super Bowl. “That’s been our goal since I’ve been here and it’s been our goal since Andy [Reid] has been here. It’s not been — of course we want to win the division, but — it’s not been to win 10 games, it’s been to win the Super Bowl. And that’s not going to change because we’re younger or because people think we’re in a rebuilding year.”

Kolb said he liked the fact that he had to play under pressure when he started last season.¬† He thinks he’s ready to deal with Eagles fans and their passion for the game and desire to win a Super Bowl.

The young signal caller from Houston says he was confident during his apprenticeship under McNabb, that head coach Andy Reid would know when to give him his opportunity.

As for his reaction to having to face McNabb twice a season, Kolb responded, “Im excited about it, ” he said.¬† “I’m sure it will add a little bit of drama, but this is exciting.¬† Adds a new outlook.”

I thought he came across well in his first news conference as the Eagles starting quarterback.

Remember to come on out to P.J. Whelihans in Cherry Hill on next Monday April 12th at 7pm to talk about what the Eagles should do in the draft.

We’ll be giving out prizes and going through a mock draft.

Well Kev-O, you got some big cleats to fill. Now we (Eagles fans) will give you a bunch of crap once you blow a game, or throw a costly pick, or make some other random bonehead play but that’s just us. You’ll just need to suck it up, rally the troops, and go balls-out!

Hello, my name is WellWellWell and I’m an Eagles fan. I pledge my fanhood to my team and everyone in it no matter what! Fly Eagels Fly, till the day I die!

Hey, we’re all fans here, expressing various point of view. Time will tell how this plays out with Kolb under center and the pick for McNabb better be ready to step right in.
One thing I have seen from Kolb is grit. He’s a tough kid in a tough market. I don’t think he’ll get too down on himself after a miscue, but rather learn from it and keep throwing downfield to receivers capable of making plays. I do want to see him audible at the line and read a defense.

As far as audibles go I don’t believe Big Red likes that too much. I wonder if Shannahan will give McNabb a bit more leway in that respect and let him change the play through audibles.

I’m a staunch supporter of McNabb but I like the way this kid handled himself. Good job Kolb.

Two things I don’t like: This website changing every other month for an “update” and the fact that the Eagles are rumored to be looking at Tebow. Ugh.

I like how this Kolb handles himself, He’s young, energetic and confident without being cocky,
he looks in great shape and I think he is going to surprise some folks around the league..
Just another reason I like moving McNabb now and replacing him with Kolb is that this will force AR/MM to call a more balanced offensive attack and run the ball more and not pass the ball 60%-65% of the time… Lots of positives I see with the Eagles moving forward with Kolb and the time to do this is now…Kolb looks like a starter and sounds better and better every time I hear him in interviews… Now the proof is in the pudding and let’s see what he does on the field.

Bobby hoying lol!! Im still not sold on kolb. On Eagles live someone kept calling our new QB Kevin “accuraccy” kolb. All you guys think kevin is more accurate then donovan. Well donovan wasnt the most accurate. But kolb from all i have seen and read. Throws a WHOLE LOT on interceptions in practice and agaisnt the saints. 3 to be exact. Does playing against KC 29th ranked defense even count as a game haha. Well whats done is done. I will say one of my best friends is a huge giants fans, but respects the eagles very much. He said to me “mike i really hope donovan shoves it in all the philly’s fans faces that wanted him out so badley”. I said to him… me too!! You know who you are out there! I will root for the eagles im a die hard fan. But saying they are not rebuilding is ridiculous. Oh and you think andy dosent know what hes doing. Trading donovan to redskins is gonna bring ratings through the roof. Eagles fans all over the world will tune in just to see what happens!!! Drama at its finest. Just like a reality show!

If you guys are all scared then go buy a dog. Time to get behind the new Eaglets and start our climb back up to the top in the NFC East. It might not be pretty in the beginning, but hopefully we’re in for the real deal this go-around…

I highly doubt the Eagles will get anywhere near Tebow. He’s too much of a project. I’m more curious as to what the Eagles are going to do about the obvious void at CB now that S. Brown’s been moved. E. Hobbs? J. Hanson? I don’t think so (but we’ve all been wrong before). Perhaps “The Green Regime” has a few irons in the fire with a trade that we don’t know about.

Paulman…any ideas? And i mean about the CB situation…not just some random thoughs cascading around that brain of yours.

Paulman’s 2947th mock draft. This time it is totally realistic.

Round 1, Pick 24 Eric Berry, S
ROund 2, Pick 37 Derrick Morgan, DE
Round 2, Pick 23 Mike Iupati, OG
Round 3, Pick 6 Sean Weatherspon, LB
Round 3, Pick 23 Joe Haden, CB
Round 4, Pick 7 Rolando McClain, LB
Round 4, Pick 23 Brian Bulaga, OG
Round 5, Pick 6 Markice Pouncey, C
Round 6, Pick 31 Jason Pierce-Paul, DE
Round 7, Pick 36 Sergio Kindle, LB
Round 7, Pick 37 Jimmy Clausen, QB

Nice one, Paulman.

Lets go birds – Trade Vick in draft for a 4th and sign Garcia or some other vet to back up kolb after drafting a rookie qb in the later rounds to develop to be a back up.

Kolb is humble and decent, but let’s wait and see whether his is the one to lead the Eagles to a Super Bowl before we get to weary to appreciate it. We are still dealing with Reid and his shortcummings and now we have Roseman who has no football credentials other than video games.

Until Banner, laurie and rossman are gone we will never win a thing. all 3 of these guys have a whole 0 years played of football. this team is a complete joke now and we will always get close to the super bowl but we will never win it. these guys are just trying to milk as much money from us fans as possible. i am not buying a single thing that has the eagles logo on it until these morons are gone from the front office.

You know everyone who says the eagles will not win a thing…. is a coward you have at best a 1 in 32 shot of getting a SB championship each year. That means there are 31 LOSERS every year. What a gamble.

Of course I am a delusional fan that thinks we have a shot every year until we are eliminated. I of course recognize the holes that our team has but every team has it’s own holes. The key is getting a team that plays together and every member does its job. I believe we will have a good year this year and feel like with some more moves we will be able to get into the playoff tournament and see what happens.

I agree with Dzim53, i think reid did not want to get rid of mcnabb and roseman, banner, laurie (financial guys made football decisions). Beside if you do not sure up the offensive line, it does not matter who you put in as QB. Mcnabb is a great QB going to a team that we could not beat in the last two seasons. They just ran the football against our small d line. We have to stop drinking the eagles coolaide and realize this franchise does not care about winning the superbowl or they would have brought pieces necessary to win.

DZIM, you are predicting the future, of a team that while have several new KEY players, at QB and on D. So you sound like an idiot. I don’t know about you, but to me, two a days and physical exertion doesn’t prepare you to manage a complex financial, entertainment and community corporate entity. It would be nice if every CEO was a stockboy/mailroomtemp initially, but I’d rather have mine go to business school. I want the coaches (who advise the FO HEAVILY, to have played/know football from a player’s perspective) to be former players. G.M.s, owners and CEOs are a different job with an entirely different skill set. You guys just wanna hate without thinking about it.

@ regal Eagle The truth is i dont know how good kolb is going to be? I will tell you logically if they donot fix that offensive line, dont care who they put back as QB. understand if your offense is based on timing, and radcliffe is blowing up your center and guard who is going to throw the ball accurately. the offensive line, play calling and the defense are the reasons the eagles lost in 2009 NOT MCNABB.

Here is the facts:

The Defense gave up over 500 yards

we became a one dimensional team when we throw the ball every down. people don’t be stupid!!! if u you throw the football 60 times in a game, the defense would have to be stupid not to figure that out.

The offensive line was the main issue, when you cannot stop that defensive line without them blitzing. Donovan is dropping back, running for his life, throwing into triple coverage.

Some of you act like Roseman just walked out of undergrad with a major in theology, minor in russian fairytales. What has the guy been doing for the past 10 years? Hmmm, working a high-level job for a NFL football franchise that won a lot of games, more than 29 other teams in that time period. I don’t supposed he gained any fooball knowledge during that period, would you?

remember tom brady in the super bowl versus the eagles!!! Look at the tape HE HAD 4 Tight ENDS IN THE GAME. ‘Why? FOR MAX PROTECTION!!! If Brady’s coach knows his QB Is average when pressured, then he took the pressure off him….. that is why vrabel had a touchdown pass….. fast forward to when he played the Giants……..he did not look like a stud because the giants D line tore him up… If brady, Montana, Favre, Cutler, aikman, plumber and all QB’s needs protection then why doesn’t donovan

If the eagles take Taylor Mays with their first pick I would be very happy cause Mays is big and can hit like a mother which is basically what Dawkins was here. The second round I see them taking a QB for insurance. There is no way you have only 2 QB on this roster. I think Mccoy may be there or Pike. I hear so much about “no they are going to get a LB” if you forgot they signed Tapp not too long ago.

Roseman works for an organization that has won alot of games without top tier talent for years!! Donovan carried them in the early years….Lets review

no recievers—- against carolina— in fact mcnabb had interceptions in that game Why the reciver dropped the ball twice in the slant pattern

no LB’s —- against tampa bay— gruden out coached reid—- look at the tape— the o-line for tampa bay set up for bunch formations as well as spread….

Im watching the replay of the superbowl in 2004…. And i have come to couple of conclusions. First off our dt’s were much better then. Walker and simon were beasts in the middle. I love pat and bunk but those guys do not hold cards to those guys. 2nd…the pats much have got the coaching calls (damn cheaters!) third i dont care what anyone says, about 70 percent of the plays mcnabb had no time at all!!!! The offensive line gave him no time at all. He got his but kicked all game. And fourth Its amazing how fast and quick trotter and westbrook were compared to the past couple of years both of those guys have played. I never relized how much westbrook has slowed down over the years until i watch replays like that.
