Deion Sanders Says McNabb Deal: “Dumbest Trade Ever”

Future Hall of Famer and NFL Network football analyst Deion Sanders says the Eagles trade of Donovan McNabb to the Washington Redskins was the “dumbest trade ever”.

Sanders was on NFL Network last night and spent most of the show ripping into the Eagles front office and taking shots at the Birds fans.

“you trade a guy in your own division that you got to see him twice, and you have [Kevin] Kolb, [LeSean] McCoy, [Jeremy] Maclin and DeSean Jackson – seven years amongst the complete trio of playmakers that you have for an 11-year guy that has taken you to five NFC championships and a Super Bowl. Man, are you kidding me?”

Initially when asked about how the NFC East would finish next year Sanders had the Cowboys and Giants at the top of the division with the Eagles and Redskins battling underneath them.

Former Pro Bowl defensive tackle Warren Sapp disagreed with him.

“You look at these two teams… they swapped quarterbacks,”¬†Sapp said. “Now the Philadelphia Eagles have the worst quarterback in the division, and the Redskins have one of the best defenses, and now you give him a veteran quarterback. Prime, Philadelphia’s at the bottom of this division right now.”

Sanders changed him mind.

“You know what, I would agree with you, big fella. I¬†would,” he said. “Dumbest trade ever. I’m still mad about this trade.”

Do you think Deion is right or wrong?¬† What’s going to be the standings in the NFC East after the season next year?

I hate to say this but, Deion and Sapp don’t like this because Kolb is the wrong skin color. I shouldn’t even be commenting on this because who cares what Deion has to say. He’s a loud mouth just looking to say something.

Who really gives a flyin f what Deion has to say. I couldn’t stand him on the field, can’t stand him off the field either. Stick with the NAPPA auto parts plugs retard. You’re nothing but a loud mouth anyway who knows nothing in terms of analyzing football with an unbiased opnion. Go nuzzle up to Rich Eisin for a soundbite and keep your mouth shut.

Hard to tell what the standings will be. One thing thats certain as of now is that we have a lot of holes in our defense and uncertainties and youth on the offensive side. That usually doesn’t equate to a successful football team. Hopefully the Eagles have a good draft but there will still be questions.

Usually if somebody’s thesis statement for an argument is an absolute (“Dumbest trade ever), they will probably draw absolute conclusions that have much more potential to be absolutely wrong than absolutely right.

Sapp and Sanders start with a faulty presupposition and end with a conclusion that still needs to be played out. I think Sapp’s comment about Kolb being the worst QB in the division is a little premature. You could certainly say the least proven quarterback, or the greatest unknown variable.

Time will tell whether these men’s brash comments come to fruition or not. Until then, I will reserve my football absolutism.

Hey Deion if trading a 33yr old qb, with an injury history who has not won a division title since the super bowl season, for a high 2nd rounder is a bad trade, then what the hell do you think of the the jay cutler trade? Cutler hasn’t even gone to the playoffs in a division that is and was very weak, for essentially 2 draft classes and a serviceable starting qb. Cutler may have been young but the only thing that he has proved is that if he play 20 yrs he will definitely be in contention for the interception title. The Eagles are bringing back basically there whole offense, the o-line is not as bad as people make it out to be, its a top 5 line in the league and with a qb who get the ball out quicker you will see how much he gets touched. The defense is the problem because the linebackers and the secondary is pretty much depleted. if they fix this there is no reason they cannot compete for a division. depending on the draft i would say they could go 10-6 or over 6-10 it all depends on the draft and the health of key players

I think putting us in the basement of the NFC East is a bit premature. Let’s see what team we are putting on the field come the regular season and then we may try and extrapolate what may happen by years end. The draft and UDFA’s, OTA’s, mini camps, Training Camp haven’t even happened yet. You never know what injuries may pop up and hamper the season.

At least Sapp, stupid comments aside, has some value as far as an analytical opnion with regards to defense. Slanders (yes, I call him Slanders b/c all he does is talk smack about players not named Deion Sanders) on the other hand is only on NFL Network as ENTERTAINMENT not INFORMATION. All he can bring is some clever adjectives to describe highlight clips of the week past and make non sensical rap songs with his homey Snoop Dogg. Keep holding up the 21st and Lame street sign Slanders, you’re doing a bang up job. God I hate this no talent a$$ clown!

Let me explain the o-line statement. The line last year was supposed to be peters, heremans, jackson, andrews and andrews. It ended up being peters, herremans, cole, gilles, justice. Peters was hurt most of the year and played in a new offense. Herremans missed half the season. Jackson was a mainstay until the end when he blew his knee out. shawn andrews was injured all year and was replaced with cole. Stacy was a stupid signing because everyone but the eagles knew that it takes about a year to recover from an acl tear. I though justice played well personally. You draft a center and a guard and this line is good again. Plus stacy andrews might return to 2008 condition since he has had time to fully recover.

@loki-I agree, I firmly believe that once the OL comes back a bit more healthy we will be alot better. Peters will be better, Herremans will be the same (above average) Jackson is a huge question mark and I can see a move in Center via the draft or with a player we already have. Stacy could be an improvement after a full off season of conditioning, and Justice was a marked improvement already last year and I can see him getting a bit better with more confidence.

Deion says “Dumbest Trade Ever” but his rationale is weak. He says McNab is an” 11-year guy that has taken you to five NFC championships and a Super Bowl”. OK. He’s also a rather mediocre QB at this stage when compared to the rest of the starting quarterbacks. He’s 12th in the league in terms of QB rating (92.9, Jason Campbell’s QB rating was 86.4). He’s at the bottom third in completion percentage (60.3; 19 QB’s had better). He’s 33 and on the decline. His best skills were his ability to extend a play. Now he is sacked at the 10th highest number of times. He is an inaccurate passer and does not throw to open spots that allow his receivers to catch the ball on the run. He throws a nice long ball but his inability to throw accurately and lead receivers always created a team that had very little rhythm. He wasn’t great in the clutch and excuse me if I beg to differ with McNabb’s own allusions to John Elway who was the epitome of clutch. His time has definitely played out.

btc24- malicious or not, race should never enter the equation no matter how justified you think it is. I don’t give a f if he’s purple, I only care about what he puts on the field.

What would make either one of the think that the Giants will be good next year? They talk about us trading McNabb and starting Kolb, so that will make us worse…… Do they not know who the Giants QB is? Eli Manning is a scrub. They were good all them years because of their D, and their D sucked last year. I know they got some new safeties, and a new D-Coordinator, but that is the problem….. It will take time for the players to fully adjust to the system, and the new ones to gel with the new team. Besides, Eli is still a scrub. There are tons of QBs I would take over Eli, and that includes Jason Campbell. This is a QB that was having his head called for before they won the SB. Now everyone acts like he is some great HOF QB or something. It’s all in the name. The name Manning carries a lot of weight, but he ain’t no where near the level of Peyton. If it wasn’t for their looks, I would assume Eli was adopted by how horrible he is.

Deion was a great player but he is also a moron. Dumbest trade ever – not a chance. Good move – who knows? But Deion has no clue. He as a 50/50 shot of being right, but that does not mean he is not stupid. Who knows? Maybe the skins skip picking Jimmy Clausen and he becomes the next Joe Montana elsewhere. Probably not gonna happen, but my point is that the draft is a crapshoot. The more picks you have the better off you are. Eagles were going nowhere in 2010 without significant upgrades to defense. We’ll know in 2 years if this was the right move.

If the McNabb deal is the worst ever, wonder what old Deion thought about the Roy Williams deal for two very high draft picks? Hey, the trade is done so now it becomes Reid’s problem to get wins over Washington, not Kolb’s. For years I’ve believed Reid’s head should have been on the chopping block. How do you put trust and value on so many players brought in who’ve had serious, recent ACL surgeries?

Now I am no racist but how come it seems only black “analysts” hate this trade. You are trading a black QB so they can move to their younger QB who just so happens to be white.

When Favre was traded no black “analysts” said what a terrible trade. Not t mention Aaron Rodgers never had 2 back to back 300 yard passing games.

It seems they are more upset a black QB was traded a a white QB is now starting. Would they be mad if McNabb was traded but they let Vick start? I highly doubt it.

Note: I put analysts in quotes because I think people like Deion Sander and Warren Sapp are idiots. They are their for shock value and really know nothing about anything.

tjp2033…you are a closeted racist.

Your selective screening in your mind refuses to see all of the facts. Jon Gruden said that he wouldn’t have traded McNabb before the trade happened. Chris Collingsworth has said multiple times over multiple years that he wouldn’t trade McNabb, even though that’s what the Philly fans, by and large, wanted that. Multiple non-Black analysts have said it would be stupid for the Eagles to trade McNabb for the last couple of years. Even if Gruden switches his opinion now it’s more to not burn bridges with a potential future employer.

Deion is an idiot on most things, but he’s pretty spot on with this. You just don’t trade a HOF QB, that owns ALL team QB records, coming off of his 2nd best career year.

Best scenario is after the abysmal season that will be 2010 the Eagles fire Reid, finally swallow their pride and hire Jon Gruden. Maybe the Eagles get McNabb back, maybe not. Either way the Eagles will be closer to actually being able to win something.

its kind of funny that people think sapp and sanders hate kolb because he is white. it seems to me that there remains a section of eagle fans who will never accept a black qb even if he won ten superbowls!!!!
