Steelers Trade Santonio Holmes To Jets For 5th Round Pick

You’re going to hear some noise about this trade and the difference in treatment of two Steelers players who helped Pittsburgh win a Super Bowl a couple of years ago.

The guy , Santonio Holmes, who was Super Bowl MVP of the game and made numerous big plays on the game winning drive has been traded from Steelers to the New York Jets.¬† That’s surprising in itself but what’s more surprising is the fact that they traded him for a 5th round pick in the upcoming draft.

This guy is a number one receiver who was drafted in the first round,¬† but he’s also going to be forced to sit out the first 4 games of the season because he violated the rules for the substance abuse program.

Holmes in also being sued by a young lady in Florida about an incident where she said Holmes they something in her face.

News is expected tomorrow regarding the other guy, Ben Roethlisberger, who threw the game winning pass to give them that Super Bowl victory.

From the reports that have been made, tomorrow the D.A. in the area of Georgia which is where Roethlisbeger got in trouble will make it public that they won’t prosecute him.

Now we’re going to find out what the Steelers and Roger Gooddell are going to do with their franchise quarterback who has been involved in two investigations regarding women accusing him of sexually violating them.

NFL fans, along with other NFL players, are going to be anxious to see what the Steelers and the NFL commissioner decide to do about Roethlisber’s behavior.

What do you think they should do with Roethlisberger.

The Steelers are F’ed. Baltimore goes out and get Stalworth and Boldin and you go and get rid of your best WR for a 5TH ROUND PICK! and give him to a AFC Rival on top of that! look you wanna trade the guy fine but get something better in return at least. There are questions about Hines Ward and how much does he have left in the tank as well. Worse trade this year by far.

Holmes is a negative guy and the Steelers are likely working towards addition by subtraction.

Wow, they traded Holmes for a 5th rounder. That’s insane. We should’ve got him.

Yes. That is crazy. They just got rid off one turd. Why would they add another? And Clark was UFA. We could have signed him without a trade.

But things have changed… Big Ben will be gone after the 2010 Season per my sources in Pittsburgh
Back-up QB Charlie Batch is almost as old as me (46 years old) so I expect the Steelers to draft a young Qb but may be in the market for a starter for the next year or 2, but I admit, it is a stretch for the Steelers probably wouldn’t want anything to do with Vick, same goes for the Carolina Panthers both teams have very conservative ownership and typically get rid of players who have a checkered past or off-the field problems…

If Holmes gets outa line Ryan will sit (on) him.

This businness of of trading in your own division is an unusual concept. Make your competitors better???

***********WellWellWell Crazy Trade Update**************

Eagles Trade QB M. Vick and OG S. Andrews and the 37th pick in the 2010 draft to the Detroit Loins for WR C. Johnson aka Megatron.

Well Well Well, dream with logic. C. Johnson would sit behind Avant. We don’t need WRs. If you have 3 great cars, and you need a house, do you go buy another car?

I wouldnt say we have 3 great cars. But I would say that the 3 that they do have are the best 3 they have had since the Barnett and Williams years.

The Holmes trade is crazy he is way better then a 5th rounder. Jets got a steal I cant believe no one would offer more then a one 5th rounder. If its because of the night club thing. You got to believe that he isnt gonna get into anymore trouble then he has already.

I mean the guy had 79 rec with 1200 rec yards. On a team that is primary a running team that has Hines Ward.

Hey, agreed about Holmes on the field. But the guy is now suspended for 25% of the upcoming season, in a contract year, so at MOST you’re getting 12 regular season games out of him. That’s assuming that he doesn’t do anything else to get himself in trouble – if he does, and why wouldn’t he, he’s on quite a streak – he’s suspended for the whole year, and then a FA. So if he get’s busted – for anything now – then the Jet’s traded a 5th round pick for 0 football plays.

I hear a lot of praise for Eagles’ receivers, but allow me to play devil’s advocate. If 165-lb. DeSean Jackson goes down, how good are they? Losing Jackson would likely change the entire offense. I don’t think anyone else could stretch the field or draw double coverage, thereby allowing safeties to focus on run defense. The key, in my opinion, is Weaver. I thought the Birds would use him at the beginning of last season, but his number wasn’t called until much later. If both he and McCoy become running/catching threats, the offense would enjoy more balance.

Drummer – I think you may be underestimating maclin a bit. But you have a point on backups tho can’t you say that about all teams? Jmac is real fast

I had a talk with a friend of mine yesterday and he played out this scenario that is just too whacky to keep to myself. This is the “Donovan McNabb will never play a down for the Skins” scenario. OK so McNabb gets traded to the Skins but what team does he really want to play for? Most of you will say the Vikes right away BUT…the Vikes only came up from last year, before that it was all about McNabbs hometown Chicago….now who’s the QB in Chi-town?…that would be Cutler….who drafted Cutler?….that would be Shanahan…SOOOO draft day trade that ships McNabb to Chicago and Cutler to the Skins. McNabb goes home, Shanahan get’s his man back, and the Bears…well…they’ll be the Bears and we’ll only have to see McNabb once this year. I know it’s all pie-in-the-sky but it is interesting…and no, this friend I speak of is not Paulman.

I may doubt Andy Reid’s ability to draft Defensive Linemen but I believe that the combo of Andy and Dick J. can lead to draftng one heck of a new secondary. I think they may move Samuel and Mikkel and grab 4 defensive backs in the first 2-3 rounds.
