Eagles Confident Youngsters Must Think Super Bowl, Immediately

The Eagles young talented offensive players are confident that they can bring quarterback Kevin Kolb on board and not break stride.

Reuben Frank of Phillyburbs.com talked to the group of youngsters and they’re anxious to prove that they can get the job done without having a veteran presence around to steer them the right way.

“All those guys are proven”, Kolb said. “That’s the thing. We’re young, but there are a lot of guys that have already proven themselves. They’re not going in there wide-eyed and scared. You know what you have to do. You know what it takes to win ball games. We’re just shuffling in some new guys hopefully for the better and we’ll be able to run with it.”

DeSean Jackson, Brent Celek and Jeremy Maclin have proven themselves, but they can’t be satisfied with being good enough to compete in the league.¬† They must strive to be the very best at their positions in the league.

“Our offense is a lot of young guns coming in and taking advantage of a lot of great opportunities,” Jackson said. “We’re here for the long haul.”

“When I first came to this team, we had guys like (Brian) Dawkins, (Donovan) McNabb and (Brian) Westbrook,” Jackson said. “All those guys are gone now.”

“It’s going to be exciting. We’re able to all communicate with each other. We hang out, we do all the things together. Any time you have that relationship with the guys that you’re coming in and sweating and competing with, we’re able to go out on the field and have that good camaraderie.”

My advice to these guys is don’t take anything for granted and hit the ground running right now.

Their careers will fly by, so they must start preparing right now to do everything they can to win a championship this year.  Injuries will occur, so take advantage of every healthy moment you have.

They need to find a way to force the front office to address all the needs of the football team, right now.

They should try to win a championship every year because they’ll look up and their time will be up.

I don’t want to see them allow the front office to waste half of the decade telling us that you don’t need to be good at certain positions to win a championship.¬† They did it with the last crew of McNabb and Westbrook, but it shouldn’t happen again.

Nobody knows which year is going to be the year.¬† The door was wide open for the previous group early in the 2000’s but they waited until 2004 to acquire enough offensive weapons to really go after a Super Bowl.

It’s going to take quality players at every position to bring home the trophy.¬† One, two or three players can’t win a Super Bowl by themselves.

I think this is the plan.

Ummm… I am not sure Maclin has “proved himself” but I like the meaning. We have a good core but need to get some beasties on defense as soon as possible.

Confidence is great to have, but play a few seasons before you say you have proven yourselves. This is the problem with the Eagles. They take credit before they produce. This upcoming season will sort out
those who are players and those who are playyeers.

The Offense will be fine I think the Defense will be the question we all have. Its nice to know that the Offense is hanging out and having fun with each other but is the Defense doing the same? I just feel like theres no togetherness or hunger on the defensive side since losing B-Dawk. I want that nasty, arrogant, in your face, we are the $hi% attitude on Defense and I dont see that now. Taylor Mays the safety brings that leadership which is why I say draft this guy cause one things for sure he can TACKLE VERY WELL and can HIT HARD much like B-Dawk.

You gotta admit the kidz sound motivated to prove something. I expect a very positive training camp and who knowa? They might just surprise us. Either way I support all the moves thus far and expect some big moves come draft day.

Yep, the young guns are saying all of the right things in April. We will see in October/November when the bullets start flying. I don’t care what any of them say, it’s plain hard to win with a bunch of inexperience guys. At least when they run the wrong routes now, it won’t matter because Kolb won’t know either. Both Maclin and Jackson want to be STARS… will the be able to coexist. We shall see…

vricchini-I hope just the opposite in that we DO NOT DRAFT TAYLOR MAYS! OK so he’s fast..in a straight line, easily avoided by a simple fake by a ballcarrier. OK so he can hit you so hard you’ll find Jesus. Go watch all the Taylor Mays youtube vids out there. One thing you find is all he does is lead with his helmet and shoulder. Kid does not wrap up ANY ballcarrier at all. His cover skills are terrible and consistantly takes poor angles in persuit. He only relies on his speed to make up for blown coverages. This guy is great playing against business majors playing WR’s in college but in the NFL…playing football majors…this guy will be exposed as a bust…

I wonder if DJax is still training with HOFer Jerry Rice still? If so, it would be a good idea to take Maclin with him. I’d give this core of Kolb, DJax, Maclin, Celeck, Avant, Shady, Bell till about week 6 and then we’ll see if they’re gelling at all. If so and we see a really good chemistry I’d say watch out!

These young guys will run the right routes. I heard an implication by adam caplan on eagles live that the pick Kolb threw in the endzone in baltimore was due to reggie brown not finishing his route.

Reggie is now the Buccaneer’s problem. McNabb is now the Redskin’s Problem.

Kolb will be running a true west coast offense and throwing to the closest thing to Jerry Rice this team ever seen. Jackson is so quick he just needs to be lead past a defender on a slant and watch out. Maclin will be just as improved in his second year as Jackson was in his. Avant is just about the best possession receiver we have had since we had the ancient guy from green bay. Celeck is the best tight end we have had in Years. LJ smith was such a waste. McCoy and Weaver will improve as a tandem and show everyone what two true running/blocking/receiving threats can do out of the back field.

Fix this defense – I don’t know enough about any prospects future to ask for a particular guy- Fix this Defense with guys that can TACKLE and then worry about playmakers. We had too many guys that were fighting bulls out there last year. No more of this OLE bull crap. Hit Hit and Hit some more. Wrap up and drive them to the turf.

I don’t care whose name is on the back of the jersey. I just want the opposing teams to not want to face our defense because they know that win or lose they are gonna be bruised and battered. I want a defense that takes the other teams hearts before the coin toss. I believe a young group of players with no vets taking the day off for the “over 30 club” is the only way to achieve this.

ChuckRob – Do you think that Kolb’s 3 years on the bench were playing gameboy? He knows the offense. He might make errors while he continues to develop. But he is no rookie. And why do you think that Jackson and Maclin don’t know routes? they’re not rookies either and they were good at that coming out of college!? It seems like you just capitalized on the youth as ripe for pessimim.

Get im Schiller. Seriously guys I think all the old school gotta have veterans that know the game is way overrated in this era of the NFL. Why?

-Free agency has consistently robbed teams of those veterans and somehow the good teams stay good and the poor teams stay terrible.

-Drafting players provides you access to the guys for the longest period of time and also gives you players who’s bodies heal faster, run faster and have flexability to avoid injury. Young players are also hungrier to earn the big pay day and therefore throw their bodies into the grinder with a zeal that is very very rare in veteran players (HOF players keep this).

– Young players are much more coach-able. See sheldon’s comments (he wasn’t happy due to contract and Samuel just does his own thing)

I happen to believe that when it comes to developing players and teaching football we have one of the best coaches in the league.

I happen to believe that when it comes to game day and making pressure decisions we have had one of the worst coaches in the league.

I am hoping that Kevin Kolb changes my game day impressions of Reid. I am hoping that Kolb is so good at running a two minute drill (see the end of the first half vs saints..I think.. he drove down and got us a field goal i believe) that Reid starts to look like a game day genious.

Maybe it happens maybe it doesn’t. I bet if you ask kolb the overtime rules he will be able to tell you both the regular season and playoff rules on the spot. Don’t know if that means anything. I’m just sayin.
