Portis Says McNabb & Skins Have Something To Prove

Donovan McNabb is making it a point to get in as much work as possible with his new teammates in Washington.  Today, he and the Washington Redskins finished up their first mini-camp together.

McNabb has been in D.C. working with the team for the two weeks which have passed since he was traded down 95.

“I feel like a freshman just getting into college,” he said after the final workout earlier today. “You spend extra time studying at night so when you do come here, you can win the guys over by knowing what you’re seeing and being able to get the ball to different guys.”

McNabb has been relatively quiet about the trade from the Eagles that shocked the NFL, but his teammate and running back Clinton Portis is stoking the fire of revenge against the Eagles.

“I was trying to figure out if Donovan had played in this system before. He came in with the terminology; he‚Äôs already making checks and readjusting receivers‚Äô routes. He looked good …¬†It‚Äôs different. You got a proven guy in Donovan who had been outcast and feels as if he has something to prove, and he‚Äôs here. I think everyone on this roster feels the same way.‚Äù

Portis has a reputation as a guy who isn’t afraid to say controversial things.¬† He didn’t take long to get McNabb in the middle of some controversy.

The veteran signal caller says he’s getting adjusted to his new teammates and Mike Shanahan’s version of the west coast offense he’s playing in:

“I’m getting adjusted. That takes time. As far as the football aspect is concerned, I’ve gotten comfortable and settled in. Everything else will just take its course as this continues on. You’ve got to be patient and take one day at a time. I’m just enjoying myself and looking forward to what we really can do in the next couple of camps and training camp.”

McNabb you are finally in a place that will appreciate your talent and I have this feeling you will hoist that Lombardi like “Doug Williams did for Washington years ago. Williams was unappreciated and proved his worth, now you’ll make him proud. Donovan, you are a class act and I realize now, this city deserves what’s coming (the basement of the nfc east)and you deserve a coach who know how to manage a game clock, run the ball, and win superbowls..Dan Snyder will be the “GOLDEN STANDARD” because he have the guts to put his money where his heart is. Bless you McNabb!!!!!

ummm songsrme2..

Did you forget that the Broncos fired shanahan? he hasnt been to a post season since 1999! if we can compare coaches to players I would say shanahan is the Kyle Boller of the NFL! he over achieved in Denver and won 1 superbowl and not much after that.

As for Mcnabb. Great guy but it was time for a change. I do think he will be successful but winning a superbowl I dont think will happen at least this year for the Skins. I dont see them beating the Cowboys I dont see them beating the Saints… Which by the way Mcnabb is terrified from I.E. notice everytime we play them he gets hurt? Bottom line redskins have a long way to go to be contenders still.

vricchini …2 SUPERBOWLS, SHANAHAN won 2 SUPERBOWLS with a quarterback who was labeled an underachiever up until then and eventually flourished with a true running game. You’re the epitomy of what we’ve become. A fan base that makes excuses for an organization that continues to think they’re smarter than everyone else yet comes up a day late and a dollar short. Since, you’re talking about the Saints….Do you remember the draft of ’99 when we picked up Mcnabb and the Saints gave away their entire draft for Ricky Williams and a box of “Top Paper”? Since that day the Eagles squandered every opportunity to win by not surrounding their elite quarterback with weapons and the “aints” with less picks and a rebuilt organization surpassed the Eagles and have won a Super Bowl with a Coach (Sean Payton) who once carried the clip board for our offensive coordinator (John Gruden) under Ray Rhodes. Yes…Both Coaches John Gruden and Sean Peyton were here before we hired “Reid”. This hurts me as much as you but they’ll continue this incompetency as long as we as fans continue to make excuses for an organization who have continued the cycle of the old “regimes in green”. I’ve been around a long time…it hurts but as an Eagles fan we are gluttonous for pain…..”TIMES YOURS”.

Would that McNabb had stayed in Philadelphia all those offseasons instead of retiring to Arizona each year.

You know what Lancaster..you have a point. If Mcnabb would have stayed in the off season instead of retiring to Arizona Reid might have run the ball more, Todd Pinkston and James Thrash would have become the Eagles rendition of THE 49ers “Rice and Taylor”, Reno Mahe would have been a pro bowl returner, Kirkland would have caught Jurevicus, and that magician hired as a backup full back would have waved his wand and turned to Tim Rathman, McDougle would have become the reincarnation of Reggie White, and the Eagles would have been “THE GOLDEN STANDARD”.

That’s good SONGSRME2. You are only as good as the talent around you or you are just plain not good. Either way we are going to see what Kolb is made of, and see how many apologists can defend his youth during the season.

@ Songsrme2 im not saying they cant win a superbowl im saying they just wont win it this year. They have too much competition and I just dont see them coming out the NFC this year.

As far as Mike Shanahan the game has changed since the years he won the superbowl and really hasnt had much of a showing in the win/loss column since so he has a lot to prove along with aging running backs and a weak offensive line. The team has a ways to go before we can call them superbowl winners.

I was one of mcnabb’s BIGGEST supporters while he was here in philly.. i wanted him to retire as an eagle and i honestly thought he’d eventually win a title here… however, he’s no longer here, so i realllly could care less about what’s going on with him or what he has to prove… now that kolb is our QB, i’d much rather read about what he’s gonna do to bring us a trophy.. i don’t want to see that ugly redskins uniform pasted all over this site.. it seriously makes me want to throw up.. i mean, why don’t we check in w/ tony romo and eli manning while we’re at it… and listen as under-appreciated as mcnabb was while he was here, he now plays for a RIVAL team.. eff him, portis and the whole redskins organization.. i mean, G, obviously i can’t tell you what to do on your own site… but i just thought this was supposed to be about the eagles
