Cowboys Trying To Move Up To 13 To Get Earl Thomas

The Dallas Cowboys are reportedly trying to move up to the 13th spot in the first round, so that they can draft Texas safety Earl Thomas, whom the Eagles also have their eyes on.

The question that has to be asked is; will the Eagles move up ahead of the Cowboys, if Dallas moves up to 13th in an attempt to get Thomas.  The draft moves could turn into a very interesting battle between two NFC East rivals.

The Cowboys already have one of the best defensive front sevens in the NFL and they have two good corners, but they’re still prone to being beaten at the safety spot.¬† If Dallas grabbed Thomas, they would be filling a gap in their defense and stopping the Eagles from drafting him.

The NFC West San Francisco 49ers currently own the 13th pick.  they also have the 17th pick, so they could afford to trade one of them and still get a player they want near the middle of the first round.

Thomas is rated second among the safeties in this year’s draft.¬† Tennessee’s Eric Berry is considered the best safety in the draft, but he’s expected to be gone before the tenth pick is made.

I just watched a segmant on ESPN where Earl Thomas was talking with Jon Gruden and his game film speaks for itself…talk about a ballhawk, he’s always around the ball and he has great game speed. There has been knock on his size but he can tackle and one thing I loved was he strips the ball out of players hands, something B-Dawk use to do. He also seems like a very intelligent and humble guy. Very proffesional. Would LOVE to add this guy, I would move up to 12 with the Dolphins

Look for the Cowboys offer their pick #27th Overall and RB M Barber to the Dolphins and 49ers
who probably could use another RB to complement who they already have..
J Jones will package Barber some way shape or form for he doesn’t want to pay the Big $$ to Barber
who is most likely a 3rd String RB on the Cowboys behind younger, faster F Jones/T Choice.
If Barber is not traded this weekend, he will most likely be released shortly afterwards….
(you could probably see the same thing happening with RB’s C Portis, M Lynch, L White and others where their present teams will look to move them over draft weekend to help move up or to secure draft picks in return and to get younger and she payroll.. The Eagles were ahead of the curve by releasing the overpaid, underpeforming players already in my book..

Are you saying that we’re not trading out of the 1st round?

Time for Rosebud to earn his stripes and outdual the Boys. I know we need a center but man I would love to get a kick-ass safety or top corner in the first round. We need to put some sting back on the D.

Cock-block the Cowboys. Eaglez..you are correct sir! Remember the days when the Eagles sucked but teams still pissed themselves getting off I-95 to face the Eagle defense..

Moving up to 12 and getting Earl Thomas requires a check book, a rather deep one. Something the Eagles don’t got these days. Their logic is this “why pay someone big money when you can pay garbage barely nothing”. They will tell us they got a safety, Marlin Jackson. HAHA. They will say they got a LB Ernie Sims. What a bum and got your Dend Darryl Tapp, another bum. So this means they got to fill cornerback but once again they’ve groomed Joselio Hanson and we got Hobbs still. 2 more bums. Last but not least we don’t have a center so this leaves me to believe Maurkice Pouncey will be the pick.

I have basically accepted the fact that Pouncey will be the pick. It fills a rather unfortunate need, but I would have felt a lot better if we had picked up a stop gap center and not had to use a 1st on a Center, albeit a great one. There is actually a small chance he won’t be there now that there is a lot of ‘Iupati to the Raiders at 8’ talk. If Iupati is gone, it’s safe to assume that the Steelers take Pouncey.

With that being said, the smartest thing to do would be move up for Thomas. Not only would he have an instant impact on the D, he would be playing for US and not the Cowboys. If they get Thomas, the weakest part of their D instantly gets better.

To JBIC,
If your scenario hold truem (noM Pouncey or K Wilson) then the smartest thing to do is to trade down
and maybe out of the 1st Rouns with a team like the Bears,Panthers who have no 1st Round pick for
additional picks in the 2ns and 3rd Rounds…
There is a definite top 10-12 players in this Draft, then from there to about 125 or so, just a lot of very good football players all across the board and at many positions (especially on the defensive side of the ball where the Eagles need the most help)
Why not have 6-7-8 picks from #37 thru #150 rather than moving up to #10- #12 to grab E Thomas
and then lose 2 or 3 picks/players of those selections from the top #150…
I say draft in quantity with this deep of a draft, select 2 CB’s,1 S, 2 DL, 1 OL, 1 QB & 1 TE with these top 7-8 picks and build the team for the future…

G – where da heck did you get this info? How does anyone know definitively who Dallas would be targeting if they trade up to that spot? You’re WAY ahead of the game with assumptions. If you have back-door info, let us know that you’ve got the scoop. Why would Dallas tell anyone who they’re targeting with a trade (a HYPOTHETICAL TRADE!). If they did tell, it’s probably a smokescreen. Where’s the credibility? You’re making assumptions here, based on an assumption, based on a hypothetical. Remember how predictable previous drafts have been at all? WAKE UP

I think the Cowboys will publicly say they are interested in moving up only to get the Eagles to ante
up more and drive up the value of getting up to #10- #14 slot which it will take to grab E Thomas
I think it’s a big mistake for Eagles to give up 2 or more good draft selections to move up 15 slots to pick E Thomas.. there’s 8-10 very good Safeties in this draft.. I think Jerry Jones is taking the potentially over-agressive new GM on the Block “Howie” to school is my take on it…

That’s what I was thinking too Mancini. It could be legit, but it smells a little stinky with playing Howie. Joe Buck Is Creepy…. I know I’ve seen your tag a million times but I still love it. He is one creepy bastard.

Earl Thomas would be a good add, but a trade with Detroit probably including Samuel and the #24 seems more likely than the Eagles getting into the #13 spot instead of Dallas. Of course if the Eagles could get into the #2 spot Suh would have to be the guy. I don’t think the Eagles will find a diamond in the rough at safety, but they could Then the Eagles could probably pick up John Skelton as a UFA.

I don‚Äôt think the Eagles will find a diamond in the rough at safety if they don’t get Thomas, but they could possibly pick up John Skelton as a UFA or draft him if they feel like teams are after him. I’ve seen at least one mock draft with the Vikings drafting Skelton in the 3rd round.
