Report: Redskins Have Targeted Berry As Their Man In First Round

The Washington Post is reporting that the Redskins are committed 60% of the way to taking Tennessee safety Eric Berry at the fourth spot in the draft.

That decision would derail the Eagles plans of trading with the Kansas City Chiefs and moving up to five to get Berry.

There has been a buzz around the Redskins about the desire to grab a great playmaker like Berry.

Redskins coach Mike Shanahan has made it a goal for their defense to force more turnovers, so a playmaker like Berry has become a target.

He had 14 interceptions in his three years at Tennessee and is considered to be a can’t miss prospect in what is now a passing league.

That’s great for the ‘skins but Trent Cole, Demarcus Ware, and Juustin Tuck will eat up whoever their left tackle is.

This is getting funny now,
I heard the Berry will be signed by the Manchester Soccer Club for $15 million per season
(though he’s never played soccer b4 in his life…)

They would have to be batsh*t insane to pass on a Tackle.

It’s probably a bluff but if they did that they would probably just sign Flozell Adams just to hold them over until next year. Not the best idea but hey it is Dan Snyder’s team.

Yeah…smokescreen is my guess. Too much cloak and dagger type counter intelligence going on right now.

Total B.S. to make Rosebud overpay to move up. Redskins can’t be that dumb can they? Artis Hicks as the starting tackle? Come on.

Would anyone be interested in trading for Osi Umenyiora??

Not sure the Giants would love to do this but I think it’d be worth a shot, no?

I think the Redskins may believe that the Eagles are trying to move to #5 to get Eric Berry. So they are creating the buzz that they are going to take Berry with the #4 pick to try to force the Eagles to either sit back and do nothing and lost out to another team…or offer the same package to the Redskins they would be offering to the Cheifs.

It’s one big smokescreen…

Whatever the case may be, the Birds are not serious about any of the top selection in my opinion. Their only interest is how much bang they can get for their buck. While the rest of the division is gaming to get those players to help them defeat their rivals and when a playoff spot, Mr. Reid will be saying the same thing he always say “I need to place my players in a better position”.

i bet the eagles move into the 10th position if the player they want is available. otherwise they sit and wait to see who falls to them

darby80.. maybe i’m a hopeless optimist, but something tells me that the FO *might* be coming around to the idea that they need to pull the trigger to get superstar talent.. because just as they could point to the 11 years w/ mcnabb not bringing a superbowl, that’s also 11 years w/ their tired philosophy not bringing a superbowl… i’m crossing my fingers

Well, looks like it was a bluff. Redskins took a tackle, like everyone expected, and the Eagles are waiting to see what happens…

We had to give up our 1st and 2 3rds to move up there. Imagine what it would have cost to move into the top 5 to get Berry. Would not have been worth it. But i’m surprised at this pick because he may not start as soon as the season opens and we could have had Thomas.

Completely retarded. We gave up a 1st and 2 3rds for an undersized DE who won’t contribute much right away…he is basically Juqua Parker with more potential. I know it almost seems trendy to want Thomas at this point, but that’s b/c it made sense. Mayock is the only person on NFL network who knows what he is talking about and he was shocked that it wasn’t Thomas.

Why did they not take Thomas? Another undersized DE? We are short a safety and a RCB, Tapp could hold down the fort at R DE.

Adam Schefter tweeted..Graham is absolutely best pass rusher in draft and will be defensive rookie of the year in Philly’s scheme. Shut the hell up haters. You dont know your ass from a hole in the ground.

why? I don’t get it…another small DE when Thomas, Pierre & Brown were all still on the board…big red said it was because Bryant ” has a good motor”…WTF, are we buying a car here??

I do not get it…we moved up to a spot where there were a number of great ways to go…but we choose the undersized DE…I DO NOT GET IT

Who gives a flying flute what Adam Schefter said about him? No one. Yeah he’ll be the defensive rookie of the year while he’s rotating with Juqua Parker and Tapp. Dude will only be on the field a lot if there are injuries. Write that down.

I am not hating, I really hope hope he is just a complete stud, pass rushing machine. I just fear that the safety position is so undermanned and a really good prospect was there for us. But more qb pressure is always welcome.

just seemed like there were alot better choices…most mock drafts had him going late 1st round, why trade up to get a guy that may have fallen to where you were??

Now look at the Cowboys receiving corp and we still need a safety and CB. Watch we get another undersized CB while we deal with big and physical WRs in the division.

Do they intend to play him at DE or at OLB like a lot of people seem to expect? If they move him to OLB, we probably just drafted another Chris Gocong.

But at the same time, the eagles needed a pass rusher more than anything. They couldnt get Suh or McCoy..Graham was gonna be a Giant if we didnt move aggresively. They wound up getting Pierre-Paul who is not as good as Graham. Bam..The Birds got the best available pass rusher on the board after picks 2 and 3. What more could they do? Did you ever stop to think that if the Iggles improved their pass rush, their safeties might be able to improve? As well as the entire secondary? This was a good pick.
