Philadelphia Eagles Sign 11 Rookie Free Agents

Hours before the end of the draft, teams around the NFL were on the phones with youngsters who weren’t drafted, and they were in conversations with them trying to convince them that they would have their best chance of making an NFL roster by trying out for their particular team.

In reality it’s better to be a free agent than to be drafted late in the draft, because a free agent can look over the league and decide which team¬† has the roster which gives him the best chance of making the team.

The Philadelphia Eagles were successful in convincing 11 of these rookie free agents to try out for their squad.

Take a look at them and tell me which ones made good decisions to sign with the Birds.¬† Of course I’ll get a look at them this weekend and tell you what I think of them.

Here they are:

DT Charles Alexander (6-4, 300) LSU appeared in 43 career games (29 starts) for LSU, totaling 89 tackles and 4.5 sacks. I see a couple guys that have a chance to maybe make the 52 man roster … we’re woefully understaffed on the offensive line, so Duncan, Howard, and McCuller probably have the inside track.

Gotta love the name “Zip” and “Blue”
I have seen the Purdue CB Pender play and he’s has potential as a nickle back/special teamer
also the DT Alexander can compete in the DT rotation well as the Northernm Iowa T T Austin can compete for a practice squad spot…

No doubt the 3 offensive linemen have the best shot, 6’5” 330lbs, let’s see his footwork. The guard has impressive numbers in that he started 39 consecutive games.

The defensive tackle might also be able to make it, he’ll probably compete with the guy they drafted late.

The 6’5” wide out will compete for one of the last receiver spots with the kid they took from Florida. It will come down to who runs better routs and who’s faster. Either of them could possibly spell the end of the Mr. Wilkenson era.

To RuthBuzzie,
Shipley was drafted last year and made the practice squad on the Pittsburgh Steelers,
The Eagles picked him up towards the end of the season I beleive . He has a nice career at Penn State
and maybe could be groomed as a potential Center..The thing that concerns me is that the Steelers had lots of needs at C/G and for quality depth along their O/L last year and if Shipley was any good, why wouldn’t he have made their active roster and been kept by a team that has needs there.. Maybe he wasn;t ready and needed more coachign,strength,conditioning.. but the fella has talent…

Looks like they got a couple of the “Big Uglies”. Funny…no obligatory BYU OLineman this year… I think the lineman have an outside chance of cracking the 53 or PS. Other are camp bodies IMO.
