Happ not coming back any time soon?

More good news for Phillies fans! Martin Frank of the Delaware News Journal tweets that JA Happ is starting to throw, but don’t expect him back in the rotation soon.

“Happ threw from 60 ft today. Dubee said it’s unlikely he’ll be back by end of May,” Frank tweets.

Wonderful! It was nice to get Blanton back last night and he pitched a good game by most accounts (until the bullpen got their hands on the ball). So that was good, but with Happ still out, that probably means a few more doses of Kyle Kendrick/Nelson Figueroa.

Keep in mind that Dubee said that he isn’t likely to be back before the end of this month, that doesn’t mean that he’s definitely back in early June. As far as the starters, they need Cole Hamels more than ever right now.

This is a big loss… Happ is the best young pitcher on the Phillies Staff and has the mental, physical makeup and upside far greater than C Hamels who I think has already peaked and will be nothing but an average pitcher the rest of his days while in Philly.. Hamels lacks the mental toughness to make it in Philadelphia and is probably the most overrated athlete in the City

Damn thats gonna hurt….They dont have any good prospects that are starters….Vogelsong and Bump are pitching good down in AAA. Yohan Flande is pitching good well in AA. Other then that they dont got nothing down there. Savery has been a bust hes not doing anything in AAA this year. Vance Worley and Phillippe Aumont are getting roughed up in AA.

So who are the options Pedro or Smoltz??????

If they sign Smoltz he can start till Happ comes back then go to the Pen and be effective.
Pedro will probly cry about going to the Pen so who knows.

One thing that is for certain they cant continue to send Kendrick and Moyer out there every 5th day they have been horrible. Besides one good start from the both of them its been a nightmare to.

They totally f’d the donkey this off season. They should have traded Hammels for what ever and paid Lee what ever to make him the #1 Lefty. Halliday followed by Lee would be awsome as you wouldn”t need your bull pin as much on most nights. Give me 2 oldschoolers that want all 9 any day of the week.

The rotation with Halliday,Lee,Blanton,Happ, and whomever.. would have kicked way more butt! We still would have gotten prospects and probably would be so far ahead of everyone by now these injuries would be just a bump in the road.

What would it take to get ?Linsecum?SP? Give them any of our prospects and hammels and a bag of cash!! Hammle’s is in need of a new situation to get his head right. Last year I noticed that his leg movements were giving away his pitch selection but I haven’t looked this year to see if its the same thing. I have been working and missing a-lot of games.

Everyone wanted Lee but they weren’t going to keep him around around and then get nothing in return when he left. It is how they do business. I don’t agree but… And they weren’t going to give up on Hamels either. Mid 20s lefty who was a WS MVP. His value is at an all time low, so why trade him now.

Last night’s game was tremendous. For him to go 8 IP against that lineup filled with tough righties battling against a guy who almost one the Cy Young last year.

And why would they ever trade Lincecum? The Giants are competing this year with one of the best rotations in baseball. He is probably the best if not the second best pitcher behind Halladay in baseball. Although Ubaldo Jimenez has had the best start of the year so far.

Hamels did pitched great last evening and I congratualte him,
This is what he is capable of, but I need to see some more consistency out of him and the mental toughness it takes to be a top-end of the rotation starter..
Obviously, if he pitches like this, then they are a much better team.. but 1 great start does not convinice me and I am not ready to jump on the Hamels Bandwagon…

A World Series MVP from 2 years ago and against a very young, inexperienced TB Rays squad who was enjoying success for the 1st time… I am more about the here and now and hope he can regain that form from the 2008 late season/playoff run but I can’t count on that for he’s been to up and down since then and was before then.. I have said for 2 years that Hamels is a good pitcher, but more like #3/#4 in my rotation for he lacks the mental toughness/confidence at this stage of his career to be #1/#2 pitcher like many have said that he is…( I just don’t buy into the hype that easy)
Obviously, I want him to do well for if he does really well, the Phillies will do really well..

im the opposite paulman i will give the benefit of doubt to the team that won the chip knowing their personnel vs a team that wont run a hurry up o down 2 scores in a sb with 5 min to play. i also go with what i see and not wtf i read in the daily news about what people are seeing from kolb in practice the last 3yrs. we’ve seen cole perfom at a high level be4 so we know it very possible and probably likey. say the same for kolb i dare u

I am so confident in Kolb because I have seen what opportunities that McNabb has let slip by for so many years.. McNabb was never all that good are pre-snap adjustments or reading defenses in general,
I think Kolb is way more advanced in this area and will be able to read defenses/coverages/mismatches
much better than McNabb ever could. I also believe Kolb will command the huddle better, get in and out and up to the line of scrimmage better and basically run the team and the clock and time out situations
better than McNabb was capable of doing….
McNabb has the much bigger arm, but this offense doesn’t really need it to perform well and at it’s most effective levle… Kolb will get the ball out quicker and to the proper WR more often allowing the playmakers to make plays and YAC… This is what I believe will occur (maybe not out of the gate, but by
mid season, I think this offense can be pretty damn good and difficult to stop)
