Kolb Has No Problem Competing With Michael Vick For Starting Job

Kevin Kolb has been named the Eagles starting quarterback but he says he would be willing to compete  with Michael Vick for the number one job, if he had to do so.

According to ProFootballTalk.com, Kolb was just on Dan Patrick’s national radio show on Fox Sports and he seemed very confident about his footing as the Eagles signal caller.

Kolb said told Patrick he’s willing to compete with backup Vick for the starting job, if that’s what it came down to.

“That’s not my decision, I was happy to hear Andy had the confidence in me, but I also know that it’s always a competition, regardless of what he says,” Kolb said on the show. “I’m out there competing every single day, and this first minicamp was very competitive, even with the young guys. So if you’re not ready to compete, you’re in the wrong league, and in my opinion you’re in the wrong business.”

This is the proper attitude to have because Kolb is competing with Vick for the job in a way.  If his play were to drop over a considerable period of time, Andy would have no choice but to put Vick in there.  This is the way it is throughout the National Football League.

If you don’t produce, your job is in jeopardy.¬† It’s that simple.

Kolb said he relationship with Vick is good and it doesn’t hurt that they’re both from the south.

“It’s very good,” Kolb said concerning his relationship with Vick. “Mike and I have always had a good relationship. We actually have a lot in common. He’s kind of a country boy himself and we get along really well.”

Kolb also said his maintains a good relationwhip with former teammate and current Washington Redskins quarterback Donovan McNabb.

What else would a confident guy say? I really don’t want competition because I fear for my future? Only a real P@#$^ would say anything else.

I don’t know, RegalEagle. McNabb never had the stance that he had competition. Even when he was sucking up the joint in 2008 and Reid went to Kolb in Baltimore, McNabb acted pissed off and wanted a “financial apology” as if the starter’s job was his birthright, and how dare Andy yank him, even if he was playing poorly.

I love everything I’ve seen from Kolb so far. Now we just need to see it on the field in games.

Yeah… I’m sure Kolb would say that with 12 million new dollars. Like Lancaster said, McNabb never had the stance that he had competition, so I really don’t see any difference except for the fact that Kolb is unproven and Vick has a few pro bowls on his resume. Actually Kolb should be fighting hard to keep the starting job because if he screws up 1 or 2 games, in comes Vick. Trying to fill a guy like McNabbs shoes isn’t an easy feat.

McNabb never had a pro bowl QB as a back up neither..other than when we brought in Garcia..So of course he never had that feeling..But I gaurentee u he felt that way last year…And I think Kolb needs to compete..Its self induced pressure which is good to see what he makes of it…Plan on seeing a lot of Kolb in the preseason..cuz if we do then there’s still a slight in the back of Andy’s mind..

Of course he has no problem. He shouldn’t have a problem if he had to and not sure what else he is supposed to say. Since he hasn’t proven anything yet, he shouldn’t have a problem competing. Now give him a few good years and then see if he still thinks he needs to compete for his job. This is his first year starting. Not his 5th, 6th or 10th. Of course proven vet wouldn’t feel he has to compete for his job. Even Garcia left Oakland because he didn’t think he should have been competing with Russell. Because he’s the better QB and he knows it. No established QB in this league would like it if they are told they have to compete to be the starter. But Kolb is saying the right things now and that’s a good thing.

I believe kolb has learned what to say to media based off of mcnabb issues with the media. He has been around to see how the media reacted to anything mcnabb said. He has seen the love affair for any qb on team other than mcnabb and he is playing up to it in the media. Like he should. I personally don’t believe kolb really wants an open competition with vick. What does kolb do better than vick? Guess will have to wait til training camp to see for sure. Some will say Kolb is more accurate but based 7 ints 4 tds that not what I call accurrate. What would kolb have to do to secure his position as starter or to lose his job as starter.

Not to the giver of bad news,
But Raiders just released QB J Russell and I heard thru some sources that the EAgles FO and AR want to bring him in for a work-out and to see if they can rehabilitate his career and get him straightened out

I would bring in Russel – As a center LOL- Fatty McFatback. Reid could have a new offense the center could keep it and throw it, snap it to the qb kolb or direct snap to QB Vick who is lined up as a halfback.

That’ll trick em all.

NO, I am not serious

There is no way Mike Vick will ever be the starting QB of the Philadelphia Eagles it will NEVER happen Andy Reid nows he isnt a NFL QB. Like Ive said before he may be good in the video games but that doest translate to being an NFL QB all the McNabb haters who say McNabb isnt accurate would have a field day with Vick. He has one the worst completion % in the game.

The only reason Vick was brought here was so they could trade him this year the Eagles thought they were smarter then other NFL teams. Looks like the whole NFL thinks the same as me that he isnt that good.

Demarcus Russell have a strong arm and never was under a good quarterback coach, so we need to sign the former number one pick and groom him. If Kolb tank, which i think he will, Vick can play the year out while Russell learn the system, and next year we can have hope in a strong armed quarterback with athletic ability. This year is pretty much a rebuilding year, so let’s get the talent in here and let the cream rise to the top.

True_Eagles….. Vick took his team singel-handedly to an nfc championships and have multiple pro bowls under his belt. What have Kolb shown in any of his performances with live bullets flying, that transfers into anything close to what Vick have accomplished? You guys kill me. Based off of the games I’ve viewed so far Kolb is an interception machine. That’s what he is until he show different. Nothing more or less.

Yo Im not a Kolb fan at all. So chill out with that. Im just not a Vick fan he isnt accurate at all. All the McNabb Haters said for years is that he wasnt accurate and that was true to a point Vick isnt even close to being McNabb league when it comes to being a QB.

The League knows Vick isnt good thats why NO one want him they eagles would have traded him if they got an decent offer.

Songs look at Vicks numbers all he did good was run. The eagles offense is built to pass not have a Qb run 10 times a game. Vick average like 150 passing yards a game durning his stint with the Falcons he is horrible.

Let me rephrase the question….What have Kolb showed in his few appearances that says he will accomplish multiple pro bowls and take this team to the NFC championship game?

what a fraud, thats easy to say after you have just been given the starting job and 12 million dollars- i still think he was a reach as a 2nd round draft choice coming out of that bogus university of houston offense.Right now the love affair with kolb is making me sick,he is as mobile as a wooden Indian so he better have a quick release playing behind this offensive line. He threw a ill advised pass to open up the second half of the saints game that in a effect ended that game and any chance they may have had of winning .As we all know the most popular player is the back up QB but now he has to go out there and make it happen

Basically what I am getting from Songs/clemenza/and phillywill is that if Kolb were Black it would be ok to love him but since he is white there is no hope for the future. That must be it because you are all willing to play some proven BUST like Russel or athlete not qb like vick over a guy who has trained his whole life to play QB. Hmmm.

Regal eagle u are saying it’s ok to like kolb because he is white even though SO FAR he has confirmed he doesn’t have a strong arm even though we have the best deep threat in the league. He has proved he not good at reading defenses (based off interception ratio) and he is interception prone.(7 int 4 tds) And he is not mobile. We have a shaky oline and two deep threats in maclin and djack who can get behind most secondaries in the NFL. Why wouldn’t u want a strong arm qb who can hit wr behind the secondary. Vick 72 tds 52 ints for career kolb 7ints 4 tds( two 3 interception games)and some picks returned for ints. Based off the numbers kolb should be the backup. You can’t win with turnovers in the NFL …don’t dare say kolb is accurate not with the way he throw picks.

Jesus…is that all you guys base Kolb’s career thus far on 11 F’N PASSES??? What is his TOTAL completion/ATT percentage? Yardage? How was his accuracy? What caliber of defense was he up against? Who called that play? From what I saw in the Baltimore game, Kolb was moving the ball up and down the field on them Ravens…something your precious McRedskin couldn’t do. Then the eventual SUPERBOLW CHAMP Saints come in early and we get dealt with. How did our D look in that game? OK, so he threw a few bad balls, Pick 6’s whatever…but all you can say is 7int/4TD like this kid threw 11 passes total as an Eagle. Bunch of Kolb-Hatin crybabies. JaSuckAss NoHussle can go pound it with his 30somthing million he stold form Al Davis, don’t want him anywhere near this city. He BLOWS…PERIOD. And stop with the whole black/white QB thing. It’s disgusting regardless of what pretensious half ass reasons you have for bringing it up.

Well well well it’s funny if u asked those same questions when mcnabb was here he would still be here.. Yards don’t win games points win game.. It’s funny how people act as if kolb has proved something… Really if he would have played well in that Baltimore game he would have been starting at qb and mcnabb wouldve been gone years ago…mcnabb 2pick of draft vick 1 pick of draft kolb 2nd round pick and he is named starter without competition like he is proven… The only good thing Andy Reid will not be around much longer.. Aj feely looked good against the undefeated patriots and he
sucks…

question, What is the answer for the Eagles if Kolb is a bum? Most of the optimist will not touch this knowing if this guy tanks the Eagles will be garbage for the next decade.

What will this team be if Kolb is just another guy or worse?

Let’s look at this objectively. Again, I believe if this guy shows to be nothing more than regular within a few games, and throw picks, he should be replaced immediately with Vick who have a proven track recored and have won playoff games. Reid, you know how to coach? Coach up Vick and your team will be better. period. If Kolb turn out to be Peyton Manning I’ll swallow every word, but if he’s Kyle Orton, We can do better with Vick or another quarterback with an NFL arm..
