NFC East Report: Taylor’s Troubles, Carpenter To Be Traded, No Haynesworth In Camp

Talk is coming out of Dallas about the Cowboys and the Rams trading former number one picks who haven’t panned out. Dallas would trade backup linebacker Bobby Carpenter to St. Louis for offensive tackle Alex Barron.

Reports are circulating that the deal is imminent.¬† This weekend the two players are expected to take physicals for the team they’re going to be playing for.

Carpenter is consisdered expendable because the Cowboys drafted Penn State linebacker Sean Lee.¬† The former Ohio State Buckeye hasn’t been able to get on the field a great deal.

The Cowboys want Barron because they don’t have enough depth at tackle, since they released veteran tackle Flozell Adams.

On another note, Dallas wide receivers Patrick Crayton and Sam Hurd have made it public knowledge that they want to be traded.  Crayton has been the Cowboys punt returner and number three receiver for the last number of years.

Both Crayton and Hurd feel that the selection of rookie Dez Bryant in the first round of the draft has all but eliminated any chance of them getting on the football field during the 2010 season.

As expected, Washington Redksins Pro Bowl defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth didn’t show up today for the start of another Redskins three-day mini camp.¬† Skins linebacker Rocky McIntosh, who had missed the previous days of workouts did show up.

Haynesworth is still balking at playing nose tackle in the 3-4 defense.  He was a defensive tackle when he came to the Skins and he wants to remain one.

The big fella is playing chicken with new Skins head coach Mike Shanahan and we’ll have to wait and see which one of these guys wins.¬† Shanahan has said numerous times that he doesn’t plan on trading Haynesworth.

McIntosh not only decided to come in but he has made clear he will also sign the offer sheet which the Skins made to him because he’ll lose $1.2 million dollars in salary, if he doesn’t sign the offer by June 15th.

You can’t get any of the former New York Giant teammates of Lawrence Taylor to say anything about his arrest for raping a 16-year old runaway.¬† They want to wait to see exactly what happened but they’re not putting any money on Taylor being found innocent of the charges.
His fellow Hall of Fame New York Giant linebacker teammate Harry Carson has tried to help L.T. over the years and he has been able to help him get off drugs but Taylor never changed his love for living on the edge.¬† It looks like he’s going to do some jail time for this one, unless he can pull a rabbit out of his hat.

On to a matter outside the NFC East division, why is everybody hating on Carolina Panthers draft pick quarterback Jimmy Clausen?¬† They say he’s a jerk, but I say a bunch of the younger players are jerks but that doesn’t mean they can’t help you win football games.

I think some of the people are just hating on him because he went to Notre Dame.

If he can make some plays that helps you win, that’s all that matters.¬† He has gotten the best preperation of the all the quarterbacks that came in this year.¬† He has the ability to make all the throws.¬† He can make the adjustment needed in a blitz situation.¬† He can run a no huddle offense.

A lot of time, a young quarterback isn’t liked or respected by his teammates, but so what.¬† It’s not as important as many make it out to be.

Lots of issues around the NFC East…
The Cowboys have some rumblings at the WR spot now that they have draft Dez Bryant..
Both Crayton and Hurd unhappy and want out… Roy Williams has been silent throughout and needs a big summer camp to probably make the team (I think he get’s released or traded away for very little)
DE M Spears is unhappy with his contract status and their FB (D Anderson) has some legal issues due to an off-season arrest, they still need to address FS and LT position that they really didn’t address with the Draft…
Redskins issues are mostly on the Defense where they are implementing a 3-4 defense and have concerns about DT A Haynesworth committment and attitude of being a team player, they also have LB R McIntosh who is unhappy about his 1 year tender offer and concerns about how ILB L Fletcher can adjust to the new 3-4 scheme… (they did add DE A Karriker and DT/NT M Kemeoatu who is a very good player when healthy) but the 3-4 is really predicated on having very active and tathletic LB’s which I am not so sure the Redksins have in abundance… Offensively, we all know Coach Shanahan employs a versatile offense, lots of formations and loves to run the ball and use 2-3 RB’s and the TE’s a lot in the passing game.. Heres with Portis,LJ, & W Parker, he has plenty of experience but these RB’s re past their primes and have not be known to be team players and will now have to learn to share the ball which may cause more locker room issues…Tey have excellent TE’s in Cooley and up and coming Fred Davis and have added old timer WR J Galloway to their roster who can still the the fly pattern with the best of them and of course McNAbb can still throw it deep, I do think their O/L will get straightened out and Shanahans employs a more blocker friendley “Zone Blocking Scheme” which many OL seem to pu quick and enjoy playing in….
The Giants are flying under the radar so far this off-season and have a promising team coming back
Their big issues surround their Defense as it did last season, they addressed the safety position by
signing free-agents A Rolle, D Grant and Drafting C Scott from LSU, If Safety K Phillips returns 100%
they could even use A Rolle at CB some..They really did not adddress MLB which is key for their defense and will be sorting it out during camp with R Goff and draft pick P Dilliard who they are high on.. A great pick was DT L Joseph who will get lots of playing time in the middle of the DL,
Their 1st pick J Pierre Paul, I think was a reach for them ,for he has lot’s of athleticism but very little experience (played 1/2 season of Division I College Football) and I am not so sure that he can become and everydown player in the NFL (at least for the next season or 2) but he can rush the QB. The Key to the Giants Offense is the play of their O/Line which slipped considerbly last year and will need some youngsters to step up as OL McKenzie,O Hara are over 30 years old and have played in a lot of games and have has some injury issues… The area where the Giants really need to get back to basics is with their RB corp… B Jacobs nust run downhill and utilize his 260 lbs frame and not run like a Scat-Back and dance at the line of scrimaage as he did last season.. Watch for 2nd/3rd year G Johnson get a lot of touches and possibly the heir apparent to Jacobs, also watch for the maturation of the young Giants WR’s in H Nicks,R Barden and top level play of Steve Smith..
Also look for 2nd year TE T beccham who is a more athletic TE than K Boss and can spread the field if he is able to pick-up their schemes better.

So every team in the NFC East (just like the rest of the NFL has issues, questions marks, injuries, contract squabble, quality depth issues) The Eagles are positioned as well as these teams and every one else, if they can remain healthy and get some of their 2nd/3rd/4th years players to really step up and contribute (Demps,Harris,Fokou,Ingram,Maclin) as well as their Free-Agent signings in RB M Bell, S/CB M Jackson,DE Tapp and of couse their high draft choices in DE Graham, S Allen and the healthy return of G Stacey Andrews and C J Jackson

Will be a great camp and a fun pre-season this year with lsot of competition and roster spots up for grabs…
