I Don’t Care What They Say, Rollins Must Have Come Back Too Soon

I don’t think the fact that Jimmy Rollins is going back on the DL is a big deal and reason to panic, but it better not happen again.¬† They’ve got to shut him down until the calf muscle is all the way back with room to spare.

Phils GM Ruben Amaro Jr. isn’t ready to panic.¬† “It’s unfortunate,” said Amaro when asked about the return to the DL for his star shortstop. “I don’t know if it’s worrisome.”

I agree with him here, but I don’t agree with what he says after that.

“It was knocked out. He reinjured it,” Amaro said. “It was completely healed. I don’t know [if the two injuries] are interrelated, but I know it was completely resolved when he came back to play again.”

It wasn’t completely healed.¬† They thought in was completely healed but it wasn’t.

If you injure your calf muscle then come back and injure it again, chances are great that it wasn’t all the way back.

They’ve got to shut down Rollins until he is 100%, then make him wait another week before bringing him back.¬† They can win without Rollins for a while but they can’t afford to have him on the shelf for most of the season and expect to be the same team.

Juan Castro is a decent backup player but he’s not Jimmy Rollins.

This return to the DL for this injury had better be the last time this happens.

I agree G,
Now I would keep him out to All-Star Game break and have him 100% ready for the 2nd half of the season.. and when he returns I would still keep Victorino as the leadoff hitter and have Rollins bat
6th or 7th in the line-up. Shane is better as leadoff, takes more pitches and puts more balls into play than JR does
