While I don’t like put too much into these “reports” that are really just speculation that we all get to take and run with, it’s a little slow in the football world right now so I thought I’d post it. ESPN’s John Clayton says that Washington Redskins QB Donovan McNabb (yes, it’s still weird to type that) “could” get a new contract in the next two weeks.
That alone isn’t really enough to get me to buy into it, but the plugged-in Jason Reid of the Washington Post also hinted that a new deal would come this offseason.
“Donovan McNabb isn’t expected to negotiate an extension until summer at the earliest,” Reid writes.
That didn’t seem like right around the corner until I stopped to think for a minute and was reminded that summer is pretty much upon us. With training camp not too far away, one would have to think that they’d get this deal done before then.
None of this is really all that earth-shattering as the Redskins would be pretty foolish not to give Donovan at least a few more years on his deal. They really don’t have anyone else on the roster that they would trust as their QB for the immediate future.
Then again, maybe I’m hesitant to assume the Redskins will just do the right thing because they rarely do.

I agree with The Silencer. We can read about McNabb in the mainstream sports press if we want to. I don’t come to GCobb.com to read about the Redskins. Your header above says “Philadelphia Sports”…knock off the McNabb/Skins stories for heavens sake.
First of all, I don’t know why you can’t see that I didn’t write the article and secondly, what’s so hard about not reading it, if you’re not interested.
Now, that’s appreciation for a pro bowl, top tier quarterback, and I know the skins will be in the playoffs. Since our garbage organization is rebuilding with that bum Kolb I’ll be cheering Mcnabb’s team in the playoffs.
Yeah, he’s no longer an Eagle. But nothing will ever change that he was the best QB for the team ever – he may become the 2nd or 3rd best, but George Bush can still be political news. Joe Montana is still relevant news for Niners fans. Etc… Why must content on this site only be specifically about philly sports – what about the article on the blown call/perfect game thing? If the Eagles aren’t in the superbowl, but something interesting happens in the Superbowl, would an article on that be inappropriate or out of place? Let’s be real here.

unfortunately Silencer, you’re wrong. There’s philly fans who loves any journalist that tells the truth along with showing how championship teams do business in hopes of our underachieving organization getting pointers on appreciating talent and one day winning a superbowl. There’s certain teams that have winning superbowls as a part of their business, and it seems the Redskins are a part of this cycle. Great reporting G. It’s good to see how championship organizations like The Redskins, Cowboys, and Giants seize opportunities to get better. Their fans always tells us we will never win a championship and we’ve fought it adamantly, but it starting to sink in. Their right.

Ha, song you just used a large amount of the word and concept you so strongly (and wrongly) accused Navy, Paul, and myself of. You just used ‘spin’ big time. You ‘spun’ this article into something about Donovan’s current team’s accomplishments from last century, actually last millennium. You made it about superbowls when it was about a player, his new team, contract negotiations, and how limited the scope of a philly sports site should be. You sir, just used spin and only spin, only to spit your negative and very limited view of the Eagles.
and now back to substance. Silencer – the following has all been reported in the sports section of Philly.com (inquirer/dailynews) in the past week. – a story about Pat Burrell. A story about Kobe Bryant. Stories about Westbrook. Today – a story mentioning Donovan and TO. AND AN ENTIRE ARTICLE on REGGIE BROWN. While you can say that you want this site to be different from the rest of sports media, and you can certainly argue that it’s more of a blog than a news entity, you cannot argue that MIcah (or G writing about Westbrook as he did last week – to which you didn’t complain), or ANYTHING ELSE) is out of place or a new idea to cover relevant former philly players. What say you now? You may have a personal opinion to use denial to cope with your lose of McNabb from the Eagles. You may wish to only have this site be only used to talk about players that are on the eagles right now (or other philly. But then why didn’t you say anything about Atogwe – not an Eagle.
So what I’m getting out of all of this is that we shouldn’t write about anything NFC East related because what the other teams in the division do has no impact whatsoever on the Philadelphia Eagles.
I’ll make a note and pass it along to G. that if the Cowboys trade for Tom Brady, Adrian Peterson, and Darrelle Revis (some of you won’t know who these players are because they don’t play for the Eagles), we won’t write about it because it has absolutely nothing to do with the Eagles.

Some poeple Micah just never want to read another article about D McNabb ever again and it wouldn;t matter if he were playing for the Raiders,Browns or the Redskins…

So keep your articles on the NFC East coming Micah , and in particular, on the NY Giants who I think are very similar to the Eagles in where a lot of changes,lot of roster turnover,new coaches, and an infustion of youth is about to take over…I am curious to see who the Giants Draft picks of 09 fator in (TE Beckhem, WR Rasmes, OT Beatty)
