Spagnuolo Names A.J. Feeley As His QB Starter

Former Eagles linebacker coach and current St. Louis Rams head coach Steve Spagnuolo didn’t forget the way Andy Reid used career back-up Doug Pederson as his starter during the beginning of Donovan McNabb’s rookie season as a way of giving McNabb time to learn the offense.

According to StlToday.com, Spagnuolo has named A.J. Feeley as his starting quarterback and will let the number one pick in the draft, Sam Bradford, take his time and learn the offense.

“It would be an injustice to Sam and the rest of the team” to set a timetable, he said. “He’s in the early stages of developing as an NFL quarterback. He came into the league far advanced from some quarterbacks I’ve worked with. We’ll do first what’s right for the team and second what’s right for Sam.”

This makes a lot of sense to me because the worst thing that can happen to a young quarterback like Bradford is to be put out there immediately and get pummeled behind a bad offensive line.

Feeley, who knows the offense like the back of his hand will get beat up, but he’ll be able to get rid of the football by dumping it to his tight ends and running backs.¬† Bradford will sit and watch for much of the season, then take the helm at the time Spagnuolo and his staff see fit.

Bad move. Making way too much money to be sitting on the bench. My philosophy is that youll never know unless you throw them too the wolves. Thats why you have a offseason is to learn the plays.

Paulman stated this back in Febuary/March even before the Rams drafted S Bradford.
No surpise here and a good move..No need to rush and throw in rookie Bradford in from the get go are a pretty weak team, I do think that Bradford will start in about week 10 or so barring any injuries to Feeley
and then play the remaining games as he learns the Pro Game and the routine of being a Pro NFL
QB behind Feeley…
